Hours: 25 Hours per week $18/hr [Part-time, Tuesday-Sunday, 8:30 AM-1:30 PM]

Summary:

The Nature Niños Educator will work as part of the Education Team at the Children’s Museum Oro Valley located at Tohono Chul Park. This is a charming destination in our Sonoran Desert combining year-round gardens, accessible to the public, with child centered play-based learning and explorations. This position is responsible for the implementation & daily management of the nature-based programming crafted to reflect the Museum’s vision for this unique venue. Duties include but are not limited to daily facilitated activities/classes and programs, while cultivating a welcoming experience for visiting families with children, throughout the exhibits and outdoor spaces. Must show a demonstrated commitment to the Museum mission and the philosophy of nature-play, experiential learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implementing programming created by Educational Engagement Manager
  • Ensuring a welcoming, safe, and helpful atmosphere throughout the Museum space - indoors and outdoors, with exemplary customer service
  • Working to implement the Children’s Museum Tucson’s Education Department goals, directed to increase the Museum’s nature-based programming; love of nature is helpful
  • Facilitating play with guests, enhancing engagement with desert landscape as reflected through programing
  • Ensuring exhibit safety and functionality
  • Following procedures, independently, for opening in the morning and closing at end of day
  • Collecting visitor data for program reporting
  • Participating in events and programs as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, science and/or art education, or related field
  • Previous teaching experience required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Creative team-player with experience in an educational environment serving young children with a strong commitment to hands-on learning and child-directed play

Language and Computer Skills:

  • Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish required
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and Outlook.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional public speaking and communicating with children and their adults
  • Classroom management techniques and expertise in behavioral management
  • Demonstrated leadership, comfortable working independently and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient organizational abilities and the capacity to successfully multitask

Reporting Relationships:

  • The Nature Niños Educator is a member of the Museum’s Education Department and reports to and coordinates directly with the Educational Engagement Manager

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour
