MITRE’s Nuclear Enterprise Programs Division has an excellent opportunity supporting the modernization of our nation’s strategic deterrence through continuous improvement of our sponsors software development capabilities and system architecture, sensor analysis and resilient communications. Our work focuses on nuclear deterrence and the technical capabilities of the mission systems. Job Responsibilities:
As part of the Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) Futures department, you will provide network engineering expertise to a diverse set of sponsor needs. You will join a collaborative group, working closely with others who value continuous learning, mentoring, and hands-on learning.
Through your work and your team, you will have the opportunity to grow, learn, lead, and participate in technical interchange meetings with a diverse set of stakeholders to gain experience in the field.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop prototypes of enterprise, tactical, and intelligent network capabilities in to address critical national security challenges
- Work on collaborative research teams to develop innovative solutions using commercial and MITRE developed technologies
- Develop enterprise architectures leveraging a diverse set of network resources
- Conduct performance assessments of current and emerging technologies
- Quantify network performance by facilitating the collection of large sets of network data (e.g. telemetry, status, flow) and analyzing the data to understand trends and anomalies
- Leverage emerging technologies that introduce network programmability to automate response to failures, cyber-attacks, and other mission related requirements
- Scale solutions to work across large enterprises and highly dynamic environments
- Communicate technical approach and findings to internal and external stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance
- Ability to apply, modify and formulate approaches and processes to solve challenging problems
- 4 + years of experience in computer networking fundamentals, protocols, and concepts: OSI model, IP, TCP, UDP, VLANs, QoS, MPLS, IPSEC, routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), networking protocols (e.g. DNS, DHCP), etc.
- Knowledge of common commercial security capabilities such as firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, full packet capture systems, etc.
- Hands-on software development skills in a modern programming language (e.g. Python, R, C/C++, Java)
- Experience with network programmability concepts such as software define networking (SDN) and programmable data planes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar field
- Exposure to Internet of Things (IoT), industrial control system (ICS), and embedded networking protocols
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
- Understanding of wireless networks and protocols such as 802.11, 802.16, LTE/5G, and/or Satellite Communications
- Experience with virtualization concepts including Network Function Virtualization (NFV)
- Experience architecting and implementing zero-trust architectures
- Experience developing networking capabilities for tactical environments
- Basic understanding of machine learning paradigms (deep learning, reinforcement learning, neural networks, etc.)
