Nurse Practitioner Job at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network
Good Shepherd Pediatrics is the only provider in the region offering inpatient rehabilitation with specialized programs to treat children with complex medical and congenital conditions.
The physicians, nurses and therapists at the 20-bed Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Emily Howatt Pliskatt Pediatric Unit provide compassionate rehabilitation care to children up to age 21.

JOB SUMMARYThe NP will function as an intensivist within the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network to manage the patients stay from admission to transfer while supporting the Good Shepherd Mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
The NP will support all patients’ needs and allow expansion of hours of operation that will support Revenue, Patient Satisfaction and flexibility for Referral Sources to admit high acuity patients.

Perform daily rounds on assigned inpatients to Assess Patient Status, Prescribe, Plan, Coordinate, Implement and Evaluate Patient Care.

Perform advanced clinical assessment of assigned patients for clinical interventions.

Performs initial evaluation, history and physical exam on all assigned patients to support the admission process.

Order and Interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.

Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patients clinical status and documentation of the same.

Coordinates a smooth transition to after care by contacting family/treating physicians as identified.

Develops care plans and DC plans in conjunction with the case management team.

Utilizes prescriptive services as allowed by the PA Board of Medical Examiners and Practitioners.

Documents all prescriptions in the medical record.

Assesses patients for change in status and institutes appropriate interventions to stabilize the patient.

Provides family-centered care by communication with the family regarding the health needs of their loved one.

Accepts “first call” for patient clinical concerns identified by floor nurses and therapists, forming a clinical plan; communicating with physician when appropriate.

Serves as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing and members of the team.

Maintains open communication with referring and consulting physicians regarding issues that are impeding progress and keeping established goals from being achieved.

Participates and supports compliance, accreditation and educational needs of the patients, family members and staff providing formal/informal education to nurses to enhance their critical thinking skills and become more proficient in physical assessment, interpretation of findings/data

Increasing their awareness of noting subtle changes that may need immediate MD/NP assessment.

Role models advanced proactive professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.

Enhances the body of knowledge of nursing or area of specialization through exchange of ideas and knowledge in professional organizations, presentations, research activities and written publications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Nursing required
-
Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required

1-2 years of experience in the area of Critical Care required

1-2 years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred

Certification as Nurse Practitioner required
