The Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County Nutrition and Physical Activity Educator will primarily be responsible for delivery of established nutrition and physical activity public education programming to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups. Programming will occur primarily at farmers’ markets and schools in Sullivan County, with occasional outreach in Orange County to meet grant objectives. This position will also include assisting with coordinating farmers’ market redemption coupons.
This is a three year 1.0 FTE grant-funded position. Funding is provided in part by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) and Garnet Heath.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in the field of Nutrition, Health Education or Public Health or equivalent. GED/High School Diploma plus one year of transferrable program/functional experience is acceptable.
- Sports, fitness, personal training, or similar certification is required.
- Elementary school and youth experience.
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and/or weekends.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.

Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery – 75%
- Deliver high quality programming to individuals and groups utilizing approved curricula and existing program materials and resources.
- Under the direction and oversight of the Supervisor, occasionally adapt lesson plans and materials as needed to meet established program objectives.
- Assist with implementing environmental program initiatives, such as community and school gardens.
- Represent CCE before the public, participants, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.
- Implement lesson plans with multicultural needs using current and approved curricula and supplemental materials, and tailor appropriate programming based on identified participant needs as applicable. Use a variety of delivery methods including workshops, public events, articles, newsletters, web pages, and social media to deliver program.
- Serve as subject matter resource and respond to questions about nutrition and community health.
Program Evaluation – 5%
- Interact with program participants, advisory committees, Cornell program specialists and faculty, county and community leaders to assist in obtaining evaluation data for programs.
- Assist in communication of evaluation results and findings.
- Make recommendations for improvement/changes to strengthen and improve programmatic offerings.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Coordination/Operation – 15%
- Utilize existing program materials to recruit the targeted number of both adult and youth participants in the GusNIP Program.
- Organize and coordinate GusNIP and Warrior Kids program activities (i.e. food demonstrations, direct nutrition and physical activity lessons to adults and youth, etc.) to support delivery of established program goals.
- Assist Supervisor in identified administrative aspects of the GusNIP Program including, but not limited to: preparing correspondence, maintaining files, maintaining participant records, etc. ensuring confidentiality of all information.
- Transport program materials and resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.
- Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
- Assist in providing marketing materials in the promotion of GusNIP programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, multi-media efforts and the environmental change initiative in collaboration with other nutrition educators.
- Accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process.
- Assist in providing existing information to bring awareness to the public in the form of impact statements, articles for progress/annual reports, etc.
- Assist with coordinating, compiling, and organizing existing program resources and program materials.
- Complete and submit program reports and financial documentation to meet funding agency requirements.
- Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
Professional Improvement – 5%
- In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
- Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
- Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
- Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, including but not limited to local health fairs, community activities, etc. Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

The Caregiver Resource Center (CRC) Program Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County will work under the direction and supervision of the Association Program Director. This position will provide organization, coordination, and management of all aspects of the assigned Caregiver Resource Center Programs, to include, but not be limited to: CRC group programming; caregiver support; CRC resource and referral; annual Senior Expo, annual Senior Safety Day; intergenerational initiatives like Building a Community Legacy Together; Tai Chi for Fall Prevention, Chronic Disease Self Management Program; and other Caregiver Educational Programs administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County. The program coordinator provides educational opportunities for informal/unpaid caregivers and their families providing care to individuals who may be aging, frail, ill &/or disabled who may have limited mobility or be home bound. Educational opportunities include roundtables, standalone workshops and training series. This position will coordinate collaborations with the 4-H Youth Development Program and partner organizations for intergenerational activities, to include CRC participation at the Sullivan County Youth Fair, as part of the CCE Sullivan staff team. The position will be responsible for enhancing CRC Programs, resources and collaborations including with the Sullivan County Office for the Aging, as well as providing guidance and oversight to CRC volunteers. Represents the Association to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with course work in the social sciences, life stages and aging, nursing, human development, human services, or related field. Associate’s Degree and two years’ transferrable program experience is acceptable.
- Minimum one year of relevant work experience.

- Teach existing, developmentally appropriate youth and adult/intergenerational programming in accordance with the established Plan of Work.
- May assist with teaching innovative, developmentally appropriate programming initiatives at community based sites in accordance with the established Plan of Work.
- Deliver training to program volunteers in program management and caregiving and senior living strategies.
- Effectively utilize all forms of mass media, including social media, for the delivery of CRC educational programs.

- Work to foster acceptance of RC program, methods, and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.

Program Evaluation - 5%
- Implement program evaluation as designed.
- Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of classes and instructors within program areas for all programs offered.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction - 5%
- Provide input to plan the delivery of educational programs for the Caregiver Resource Center based on program evaluation data and changing local priorities.
- In collaboration with supervisor, assist with establishing program goals and priorities, including providing input from the community on program needs.
- Develop and enhance networks of volunteers and/or professional and non-professionals to extend program implementation.
- In collaboration with supervisor help develop marketing strategies, public affairs and special events to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.
- Provide supervisor with program related information for the budget development process, including strategies for fund development via grants, contracts, fees, contributions and other sources of revenue.
- Assist with strategizing ways to expand effective CRC networks.
- Provide input into the planning of all programs to consider the needs of diverse program participants.
- Provide input for the development of written marketing materials to highlight a program/s.
Management - 10%
- Demonstrate judgement and discretion to solve problems and resolve conflicts in consultation with supervisor that arise in the CRC Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.
- Recruit and oversee volunteers to assist with programming.
- Responsible for managing program budget in collaboration with the Program Director.
- Guide the implementation of program budget including assistance to identify community and fiscal resources for program continuance and enhancement.
- Work with supervisor to implement communication strategies to expand program and build awareness.
- Manage conformance to the Volunteer Involvement Policy (VIP), including the recruitment, involvement and management of volunteers in the CRC Program.
Coordination/Operation - 70%
- Compile and prepare teaching materials necessary for CRC programs.
- Implement established program schedule.
- Coordinate program implementation efforts, planning and activities to meet the goals of the program.

- Assist in allocating budget amounts.
- Utilize mass media efforts related to program implementation and communication strategies.
