The Nutrition Services Director supports and manages the Nutrition Services Department, ensuring 2,000+ K-12 students are prepared for high-quality learning by creating, preparing, and serving delicious, nutritious meals daily. The team member in this position will be knowledgeable and stay up-to-date on school nutrition rules and regulations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This position will also effectively lead and support the Nutrition Services team in professional development and growth to enhance a high-quality nutrition program.

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Direct Reports: K-12 Kitchen Cashier/Servers and Meal Preparers

Compensation:
This is a full-time, 12 month position. Annual salary is within the range of $55,000 - $70,000 and is dependent upon education, certifications, and experience. See a detailed outline of benefits and additional compensation at the bottom of the job description.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee quality assurance for Pinnacle Charter School.
  • Provide technical assistance and monitor sites to ensure compliance.
  • Manage Titan Software including Free and Reduced and Point of Sale (POS) to monitor processing of free- and reduced-priced meal applications from The Pinnacle Child Nutrition sites and ensure eligibility statuses are current and up-to-date.
  • Organize, submit, and track monthly claims for schools participating in federal Child Nutrition programs (SBP, NSLP, ASCSP, FFVP, and SFSP) in order to obtain state and federal reimbursement for schools.
  • Process meal benefits eligibility applications and coordinate the Direct Certification process.
  • Coordinate the procurement of products for Nutrition Services through written specifications and competitive food and supply bids. Develop required bids and Request for Proposals (RFPs), for vended products and services to comply with federal procurement requirements.
  • Serve as a purchasing liaison and/or coordinator for food and supply purchases used in preparation of all department menus.
  • Implement and maintain order placement systems with vendors.
  • Post web site updates including nutritional data and other related information, menus and meal prices, through use of district information technology system.
  • Manage menu development for all applicable Child Nutrition Programs including budget. Design and implement the taste-testing process and evaluation for new menu items.
  • Manage the verification process of free- and reduced-priced meal applications.
  • Develop, review, and update Pinnacle FASP processes
  • Develop and conduct trainings on various topics related to Child Nutrition programs
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities and attend meetings and seminars to remain current in related school nutrition topics.
  • Coordinate USDA commodity entitlements to ensure The Pinnacle FASP schools adequately receive and utilize allotted amounts.
  • Ensure compliance of department, district, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), state, and federal guidelines. Analyze and maintain reports and records for department as required by USDA, CDE, The Pinnacle, and local health department.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of short- and long-term plans for meeting existing and future goals of the department.
  • Oversee and manage the Nutrition Services budget to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Be present and engage in Pinnacle functions and organizations to build strong relationships with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Maintain and deepen current educational learning on an ongoing basis.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

General Abilities, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition, dietetics or related field preferred.
  • American Dietetic Association Technician Registration (with BA) or American Dietetic Association Dietetic Registration (with BS) preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Child Nutrition Programs serving over 2,200 meals per day.
  • Proficient in computer programs (MCS Software, Inventory, Newton)
  • Experience in Charter Schools preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience with data submissions and/or assessments.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate while appreciating the diverse background of students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Working Conditions:
Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions. Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Physical Activities: O?ce environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students, parents, peers, and community members.
Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds).
Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.
