NYCDOE Office of Community Schools Support VISTA Job at AmeriCorps
The NYCDOE Bronx School Support VISTA will work within the Office of Community Schools (OCS). Community Schools serve as an equity strategy to organize resources and share leadership so that academics, health, youth development, and family engagement are integrated into the fabric of public schools. Our schools respond to the needs of families in innovative ways so that students become more likely to attend class, improve attendance, and are better able to focus and succeed. As a member of School Support team, the VISTA will work with a cohort of 400+ schools in need of tools and resources to alleviate the stressors and challenges students from low-income communities experience. The VISTA will use data to create reports to use internally, as well as create external resources for schools. The VISTA will learn about the public school system and the various nonprofit organizations throughout New York City. There will be opportunities to meet people serving in a variety of public service roles such as administration, education, operations and procurement. We are seeking an individual that will be committed to ensuring that we partner with schools and community members to address the needs of the whole child, and who can support schools in creating welcoming and nurturing environments where all students can thrive and achieve their full potential. Further, the ideal VISTA candidate will be resourceful, proactive, passionate about supporting youth in urban public schools, and a fearless leader who believes in creating a more equitable school system for all students.
