The Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Principal Office Specialist (POS). This position will provide administrative support to the Adult Specialized Supervision Services (AS3) division by providing administrative support for the division’s leadership team, managing SharePoint sites, phone coordination, and serve as the primary mentor and lead trainer to the division’s administrative support team. This position will provide administrative support to the division’s management team with scheduling and taking notes at team meetings and assisting hiring supervisors and managers with hiring processes.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at varying locations: Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, Brooklyn Crossings at 3300 County Road 10, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429, Brookdale Service Center at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429 and remote as job duties require. The primary schedule will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility.

While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:


  • Maintain the hiring checklist, schedule candidate interviews, and support onboarding functions.
  • Provide a high volume of customer service both in person, electronically, and by telephone.
  • Input, retrieve, export, and modify information and data stored in computerized systems; problem-solve issues with other users; and generate reports.
  • Manage the AS3 SharePoint site and unit-specific sites therein, making independent decisions to streamline the presentation, access, and uniform expectations for sites; updating information across pages; ensuring consistency across pages; and managing document changes.
  • Serve as a lead trainer and mentor for OSIII’s (Office Specialist III) in AS3.
  • Serve as the division’s phone coordinator.
  • Provide front desk coverage and other administrative tasks as needed.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Three or more years of office clerical experience.
    • 30 months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
    • A combination of office clerical experience and post high school education, totaling 3 years or more (3 semester credits = 1 month)
Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Providing customer service by answering a variety of questions from customers in person, by email and or/by phone
    • Conducting oneself professionally and handling sensitive/difficult issues in a tactful manner, particularly issues of a confidential nature
    • Managing multiple projects while being responsive to immediate and unexpected demands
    • Working with computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), TEAMs, and SharePoint
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently and as part of a team
    • Manage and prioritize complex tasks with great attention to detail
    • Establish and maintain rapport with the public and staff, working collaboratively in a team environment
