Job Summary:
This position will have primary oversight responsibility for Children's Hospital-related inpatient and outpatient operations, including: budgetary management; data-driven performance evaluation and improvement; management of directors for various clinical services; ongoing engagement with leaders of all ancillary support services, facilities management and supply chain; and frequent coordination and collaboration with many other leaders within the organization to optimize all levels of health care outcomes for our pediatric and adolescent patients and their families.

The person in this role will report to the CEO of Children's Hospital and will have matrix relationships with multiple other leaders within Children's Hospital and the broader Erlanger Health. This person will be a member of the Children's Hospital Quality Steering Committee as part of Children's administrative efforts to ensure that quality clinical services are provided according to established policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Education::
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, health administration or related discipline plus Master's Degree in health administration, business or related field with substantial experience in operational and practice management.

Minimum of eight years of progressive management experience, preferably with both hospital operations experience and an understanding of support needs for a multi-specialty medical group practice environment, with at least five years of direct management responsibility in a healthcare setting/clinical practice that includes operational and budgetary responsibilities.

Pediatrics/Children's Hospital-based experience preferred.

In depth understanding of budget development and management, with a specific background in Children's Healthcare preferred.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as strong interpersonal and skills, with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization.

A management style that emphasizes collegiality, teamwork, participation, communication, and a service orientation.

Ability to collect analyze, and apply data and other pertinent information to 1) support short and long term operations and practice goals and 2) serve budgetary management needs.

Ability to delegate yet still maintain effective management of operations and financial performance.

Preferred:
Background or significant experience in process improvement is preferred.

Department Position Summary:
Specific duties include:
1.Oversee management for all Children's Hospital operations and administrative cost centers
Work with CEO of Children's to maintain the full scope of all clinical and ancillary services rendered by Children's Hospital, both inpatient and outpatient
Encompassing all ancillary support areas, whether directly or indirectly reporting to Children's Hospital leadership, maintaining all needed coordination and communications, including

Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Radiology, PT/OT/SLP, Clinical Laboratory, Biomedical Engineering, EVS, Food Services, Facilities Management, Ambassadors, Patient Registration, Patient Parking and more
Develop and maintain needed monthly and quarterly financial and operations reports, including a Children's Hospital Monthly Operations Report (MOR)
Provide support to Children's Hospital Nursing leadership as needed for budget preparation and management
Work with System and Children's Quality and Safety teams to monitor and report out to leadership on metrics related to Leapfrog recognition
Manage Risk Identification and Mitigation processes for Children's Hospital with Erlanger Health Risk Management

2.Support strategic planning, business development and process improvement efforts for Children's Hospital, assisting the CEO and other leaders, including
Provision of ongoing assessments of Children's Hospital Capital equipment and needs for inpatient and outpatient facilities upgrades
Work with nursing team leaders, physician leaders, and practice managers to identify annual needs and rationales and any emergent needs that may arise
Development of a process improvement program for Children's operations, in conjunction with clinical leaders, focusing on
Patient flow from within the Emergency Department to discharge or admission
Streamlining the complex multidisciplinary work within the NICU, the largest inpatient unit in Erlanger Health
Seamless external and internal patient referrals for care within inpatient and outpatient settings and diagnostic services
Operations support and input for Children's Hospital Quality Steering Committee and its efforts and projects

3.Oversee operations of the Children's Hospital/Medical Center Division of Erlanger Medical Group (EMG), both inpatient and outpatient
Manage and support the 5 to 6 Erlanger Medical Group Pediatric Practice and Pediatric Call Center Managers who oversee 18+ subspecialty service lines and multi-disciplinary clinics in four outpatient service sites (Kennedy Center, East Medical Office Building, Cleveland and Dalton)

Oversee management of and support for Children's Hospital-based inpatient service lines, coordinating integration with outpatient services and working with Nursing leaders to optimize outcomes in all settings
Ensure appropriate budget development and management for all practices and service lines
Assist CEO and CMO with physician contracting and recruiting issues
Bring to the attention of the CEO and CMO any concerns about physician or other clinical regulatory or professional compliance issues
Supervise management of EMG-employed physician CME accounts
Coordinate with counterparts in Adult EMG as needed to maintain appropriate commonalities in policies and procedures across Erlanger Health
Monitor key operational indicators, including financial and non-financial metrics
Develop monthly and quarterly reports on appropriate metrics with comparisons to relevant benchmarks (e.g., Vizient, Gallagher, etc.)
Disseminate these to physician and administrative leaders as appropriate
Develop plans or corrective actions to achieve optimal performance

Develop a detailed knowledge of the activities at each inpatient unit and outpatient location, with an understanding of the relationship between the operations of the unit and resulting financial and quality performance

4.Support the CEO in management of contracts with physicians working in Children�s Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient settings via PSAs (Pediatric Surgery, Plastics/Craniofacial, etc.) or contracted groups (PEMA, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Pathology/Clinical Laboratory (w/CEO)
Coordinate oversight of any Children�s Hospital/EMG-employed ANPs working with PSA-affiliated physicians
Support CEO and CMO in management of Medical Directorship contracts

5.Support Children's Hospital leaders in work to improve Patient Experience, Employee Engagement, and employee compliance with Erlanger's Standards of Behavior
Assist with development of monthly data reports and trend monitoring
Assist with development of specific projects and programs to improve various measures in each of these areas over time

6.Other Specific Duties
Oversee management of various grants related to special physician services (e.g., Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, state Newborn Screening Program)
Assist CEO with development of proformas for new clinical programs and new provider hires as well as periodic evaluations of existing programs
Support CEO and CMO with any HR-related issues regarding physicians and staff when needed
Manage review and revision processes for all Children's services-related clinical policies with Medical Staff representatives and service line chiefs
Monitor Clinical Research programs and projects, especially Clinical Oncology Group studies in Hematology-Oncology, regularly updating the CEO and the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics
Support development of grant applications as new opportunities arise, as directed by the CEO, and consulting with others as needed

7. General duties
Ensure that internal financial controls are observed in accordance with established fiscal policies and procedures
Monitor budget variance analyses for practices with regard to operation revenues and expenses and oversee development and implementation of corrective actions as appropriate
Develop and implement operational changes required to maximize clinical effectiveness and efficiency without jeopardizing quality of patient care
Identify innovative ways to improve the financial performance various inpatient and outpatient clinical service lines
Ensure understanding and consistent implementation of Erlanger Medical Group and Erlanger Health goals and objectives within areas and scope of responsibility
Promote teamwork among all physicians and staff
Work with physicians, managers and staff to resolve any medical administrative problems and maintain open lines of communication
Develop and provide information as necessary to support clinical and financial decision-making
Perform other duties and projects as required/assigned
