LOCATION: 101 Dan Fox Drive, Pittsfield, MA

Job Summary:  Ensures the safe and efficient operation of all of Bousquet Mountain’s ski lifts. Trains, supervises and schedules lift operations and ticket checking staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Train and supervise lift operators
  • Oversee all daily operations of the lifts
  • Assist lift operators in the morning pre-operational setup of all lifts, including snow removal, ramp maintenance, setting up the lift line maze
  • Ensure that all morning pre-operational checks are completed properly
  • Provide breaks to lift operators
  • Ensure all shut-down procedures are followed to ensure passengers are not left on lift and that lift is ready to operate the following morning
  • Transport lift operators to top of lifts
  • Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Passenger Tramway rules and regulations and all Bousquet Mountain policies and procedures
  • Identify problem areas (signs not visible, ropes not in place, potential hazards, etc.) and rectify them as soon as possible
  • Assist in the maintenance of lift load and unload ramps throughout the day
  • Schedule staff to ensure sufficient staffing
  • Oversee payroll system, assist in resolving any payroll issues
  • Communicate any variations from normal lift operating schedule (wind hold, delayed opening, etc.) to Ski Patrol, Guest Services and management team immediately
  • Take charge of communication during a lift down-time situation
  • Lead a team in lift evacuation when needed
  • Print, file and ensure proper completion of daily operations logs
  • Fill out incident reports and investigate any lift-related incidents
  • Assist Lift Maintenance staff to ensure reliable operation of lifts
  • Inspect fire extinguishers monthly
  • Handle and respond to customer complaints
  • Ensure cleanliness of lift buildings and other work areas
  • Perform all tasks of a Lift Operator as needed
  • Work in different departments mountain-wide as needed

Other Functions:

  • Prepare all lift stations for operations before annual inspection (signs and ropes in place, buildings and structures cleaned and maintained, tools in place, etc.)

NOTE: All Bousquet Mountain employees are required to perform alternate functions from time to time, both within and outside of their assigned department, particularly during peak periods such as holiday weekends.

Customer Service Expectations: The Lift Operations Supervisor has significant direct customer contact when working at the lifts and is responsible for supervising front-line staff whose jobs involve constant customer interaction. It is therefore of utmost importance that the Lift Operations Supervisor be courteous and professional in accordance with Bousquet’s commitment to providing superior customer service.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-2 years' experience in lift operations
  • Prior supervisory experience helpful
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Intermediate level ski or snowboarding ability

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good work ethic, dependability and excellent customer service & communication skills
  • Familiarity with lift operations and the ski industry in general
  • Leadership qualities and a respect for staff

Physical and Mental Demands:
Involves lifting up to 50 pounds, and stalling chairs up to 400 lbs traveling up to 450 feet per minute, shoveling large volumes of snow and/or ice, raking, and clearing snow/ice from chairs. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking on slippery and/or uneven snow or icy surfaces, and driving a snow mobile.

Work Environment:
Position involves working outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind and rain, on varied snow surfaces, and requires being on your feet for the majority of the scheduled shift. Some time will be spent inside, but inside time still requires alertness and attention to the lift and passengers.
