Start the New Year with a new career that will utilize your skills. Retina Specialists is a busy retina specialty practice with offices located in Towson, Columbia, and Frederick. The position will require the right candidate to travel routinely between Towson and Columbia offices and occasionally Frederick, assisting our physicians in minor office procedures and documenting the patients encounter in our medical records system. Must be willing and able to learn retinal imaging procedures if no previous experience. The successful candidate will possess a good work ethic and positive attitude with excellent communication skills. They must be team players and detail oriented with ability to adapt to a flexible schedule. We will train the right candidate.

Responsibilities for Ophthalmic Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician/Medical Scribe

  • Ability to travel between Towson, Columbia, and occasionally Frederick offices.
  • Assist physicians in minor office procedures.
  • Ability to work with any physician and assist with their clinic flow.
  • Document the patient’s encounter in our medical record systems.
  • Perform retinal imaging procedures. Willing and able to learn if no previous experience.
  • Ability to become certified in Visual Acuity testing for research studies.
  • Assist physician with patient calls, pharmacy calls, etc.
  • Responsible for care, maintenance and stocking of assigned room(s).
  • Attends required staff and educational meetings as requested.
  • Helps in all other areas in office when completion of above responsibilities permits to ensure smooth operation of practice.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications for Ophthalmic Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician/Medical Scribe

  • Highly motivated, self-starter.
  • Very well-organized; works well alone as well as in a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent data entry skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex data clearly.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Specific Professional requirements for Ophthalmic Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician/Medical Scribe

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Retina terminology experience helpful.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) desirable, but not required.
  • Medical scribe knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in a medical office setting, ophthalmology desirable.
  • Retinal imaging experience desirable, but not required.
  • Strong computer and typing skills.
  • Knowledge of MDI (Nextech) and/or Modernizing Medicine (EMA) medical record systems helpful, but not required.
