The Packer Lead works under general supervision of the Packaging Supervisor to prepare products for delivery by assembling final packaging of products in accordance with written standard procedures.
This position is responsible for work station set-up, printing labels, training, and material handling as needed. 1. Operate Sealing Machine to seal clamshells on final product packaging and operate Sensor Card Machine to attach security sensors to product cards. 2.
Complete final packaging by applying proper labels and/or placing them into boxes. 3. Set-up Sealing Machine by completing die changes and making adjustments and set-up Sensor Machine by adjusting the sensor location on the machine by hand based on the product type and size. 4.
Review daily schedule from the Packaging Supervisor for the department and create job folders by printing the work instructions, bill of materials, export packing lists and invoices, and creating and printing labels for Packer I and Packer II jobs for the day. 5. Prepare work station for Packer I as outlined in the work instructions by lifting bins of product from pallets, carrying them to the work station, and setting them in the appropriate place at the work station. 6.
Report accurate count of time spent and quantity produced for each assignment by scanning badge at the beginning and end of each assignment and completing required paperwork to turn into Packaging Supervisor. 7. Use a Staple Gun to assemble boxes. 8.
Train new hires, review efficiency rates, and communicate any issues within the packing department. 9. Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and work with maintenance to troubleshoot and repair more extensive machinery issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective solutions. 10.
May perform the duties of the Packaging Supervisor in the event that the supervisor is absent. 11. May operate a Pallet Jack and Forklift to move product around the department as necessary. 12.
Perform daily safety inspections of material handling equipment. 13. Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management. 14.
Follow Six Sigma lean manufacturing standards to keep work area clean and safe from hazards. 15. Perform all other duties as assigned. Job Qualification Requirements High School Diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience required.
Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing environment preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand basic English. Must possess knowledge in updating data and navigating through warehouse management systems and various vendor websites (UPS, Fed Ex, Home Depot, etc.). Experience with IMI Series (AS400) and Boss is preferred.
Must be able to operate a Class II Order Picker and Class II Stand-Up Forklift, Pallet Jack, Label Printing System, RF Sealer, and Staple Gun. Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple functions. Ability to demonstrate basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
Ability to work independently and with others. Ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail. Ability to meet established deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to train and influence others.
Physical Demand Requirements Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach above shoulders, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
