Position Description
Under the supervision of the Director and Lead Kennel Technician of the Junction City Animal Shelter, employee performs a wide variety of duties involved with the enforcement of animal related laws and the prevention of those acts, investigating animal related law violations, and performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the above outlined duties. Major Areas of Responsibility
Patrol the City in a vehicle, by foot, or other means to help prevent animal issues, discover, and prevent animals running at large. Pick up and return to owner and/or Animal Shelter all domestic animals found running at large and enforce animal related ordinances. Respond to all calls for service as assigned by Dispatch or any other authority. Assist Patrol, Investigations and other local agencies when requested.
Serve as liaison and public relations officer to the public; establish and preserve good relationships with the public; answer questions from the public concerning local and state animal laws, promote and enhance public understanding of animal related laws.
Generate written reports documenting what actions have been taken as it relates to assigned case work.
Participate in training to improve skills related to Animal Control.
Work closely with the Animal Shelter employees to maintain a positive relationship.
Coverage at Animal Shelter as needed.
Education/Experience/Requirements
Requirements:
U. S. Citizen
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
18 Years of Age or Older
Basic computer skill.
Meet the residency requirements in accordance with department policy.
Valid Driver"s License
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic computer skills with the knowledge of database programs related to a records management system, photographic and video programs.
Ability to speak and hear to exchange information.
Ability to operate a vehicle to travel to various locations.
Understand, interpret, apply, enforce, and make decisions in accordance with applicable state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Conduct a variety of investigations.
Maintain contact and preserve good relations with the public; respond to requests and inquiries from the public.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Physical Demands (put an * next to essential functions)
Walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance. *
Regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderate weights.
Frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy weights; occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights.
Requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, and gripping with hands and fingers. *
Work Environment
The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration; potentially hostile environments; extensive public contact.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be very loud due to agitated animals, etc.
Incumbents may be required to travel outside City boundaries to attend meetings.
