The Patient Access Representative is responsible for pre-registration, registration and admission functions for Mercy Medical Center.

40 Hours per Week - 1shift (Days)
You Will Be Responsible For :
Exceptional Patient Care : Performs complete and accurate pre-registrations, registration, and admission functions.
Excellent Communicator : Verifies insurance requirements, obtains and understands insurance benefits.
Technical Familiarity: Ensures that all entries concerning demographic, financial and advanced directives are accurate. Collects non-covered fees.
Interviews all patients to obtain demographic and financial information, inputs data into Meditech system. Identifies party that can legally authorize services. Sorts and distributes all appropriate copies and completes all phases of registration process, (i.e.) other papers, patient bracelet, patient rights, Health Care Proxy info etc.
Coordinates bed assignment for all patients. Works cooperatively with Nursing, surgery, recovery room, emergency room and physician’s office. Assigns beds, transfers and coordinates all admissions. Maintains death books and releases information to funeral homes.
Ensures that all entries concerning demographic, financial and advanced directives and other relevant information is entered accurately and efficiently. Selects medical record number that identifies the correct patient, per policy.
Has a clear understanding and explains hospital policies or regulations concerning valuables, patient’s rights, health care proxy, Notice to Medicare beneficiaries, and hospital mission.
Responsible for upfront collections, co-pays and high deductibles.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsive and courteous hospital environment. Participates as a team member by performing additional assignments when requested.
Interviews all patients in person or by telephone. Obtains demographic and financial information and enters all data into Meditech system. Ensures that necessary third party payor requirements and certifications are covered for financial reimbursements. Performs other clerical and record keeping tasks related to admission, registration or transfer of patients.
Requirements :
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, college preferred.
Medical terminology skills.
Relevant medical office, hospital / physicians billing or patient registration experience preferred.
Excellent customer service, verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
