SHIFT: PRN/Nights

Job Summary and Qualifications

Coordinates the placement of all patients within the hospital, including Transfer Center, internal transfers, and admissions with direction/guidance of the House Supervisor. Assists House Supervisor with staffing issues, including requesting agency staff as directed. Works under direct supervision of House Supervisor in maintaining throughput and overall patient flow.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors bed board continuously and assigns beds for all patient admissions and transfers in the adult hospital.
  • Maintains effective communications regarding placement and throughput with Charge Nurses and Directors.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively manage and prioritize placement tasks
  • Consults with EVS to facilitate and prioritize patient room cleans.
  • Initiates and maintains communication throughout the day with Emergency Department, Perioperative Services, and all other specialty areas.
  • Assesses scheduled admissions, available beds, and requested patient transfers on an on-going basis.
  • Assist in the planning of next day scheduled admissions in collaboration with the patient care areas
  • Participation in continued quality improvement related to patient flow and capacity management
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Associates degree in nursing required; BSN preferred.

Experience:

  • Acute Care hospital experience required; leadership/charge nurse experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Uses critical thinking skills to prioritize placement decisions. Ability to work with computerized placement systems and working knowledge of Microsoft programs.

Licensure:

  • Registered nurse

Special Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism in high stress environment.
