This position is instrumental in working with the Accounting team to support our pay and financial practices. The Payroll Accountant assists in the organization, review and processing of forms associated with federal, state, and local authorities. The Payroll Accountant works closely with the Controller on payroll processing, review, and resolution of issues. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish department goals.

A. Essential Functions

1. Prepare and process in-house bi-weekly payroll of 500+ employees using Ultimate Kronos Group, as well off-cycle manual checks and profit sharing and bonus payrolls.

2. Review, reconcile, and enter time sheet corrections for each pay period.

3. Research, investigate, and resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

4. Confirm and/or submit quarterly and annual tax reports/statements generated by UKG. (state tax reports, 940's, 941's, W-2's, etc.).

5. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in payroll and tax compliance laws (US, State, and Local).

6. Ensures Worker’s Comp deductions are set-up correctly, withholding amounts are correct, and prepares quarterly filings.

7. Audit new or modified information from HR.

8. Manage employee child support, levies, garnishments, etc. for compliance.

9. Respond timely and professionally to employee and manager questions, issues and escalations.

10. Responsible for the maintenance of employee 401k changes in UKG.

11. Prepare and post Payroll related Journal Entries and Accruals.

12. Prepare all payroll general ledger accounts reconciliations as well as other recons assigned by Controller.

13. Responsible for external payroll related audits (Tax, Worker’s Comp, Benefit) as well as provide assistance in 401k and Financial Statement Audit/Review.

14. Develop and publish reports using the UKG Business Intelligence Tool.

15. Follow policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes in polices/procedures to increase efficiency.

16. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and protection of all payroll and employee related data/information.

B. Additional Job Responsibilities

1. Assist team members, as needed, to meet department deadlines and commitments.

2. Cross train and provide back-up to transactional Accounting Team.

3. Participate in testing system updates, changes and customizations.

4. Perform other duties as assigned.

C. Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate’s Degree in Accounting

2. 5+ years of experience in a general payroll/accounting position

3. Proven experience with payroll tax reporting in a multi-state environment

4. Detail oriented, able to set priorities, and handle multiple tasks efficiently

5. Experience with UKG Payroll system

6. Effective written and oral communication skills

7. Strong computer skills, including MS Office programs, with strong proficiency with Excel (vlookup, pivot tables)

8. Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across Romac for the achievement of business goals

9. Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at Romac

10. Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities

11. Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions

1. Bachelor’s degree

2. Certified Payroll Professional or classes working towards certification

Pay: $59,800.00 - $89,700.00 per year
