Overview:

Responsibilities:
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of payroll staff and processes, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local payroll rules, laws and regulations. Oversees the preparation, processing and maintenance of employee payroll information, paychecks, pay adjustments, deductions, garnishments, leave entitlements, time and attendance records, and related payroll activities. Additional duties may include researching, establishing business presence, processing necessary reporting/filings, and related activities essential to operating with employees in remote work states. Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality (CQI) improvement activities.

Accountabilities

1. Oversees the verification, preparation and processing of CHS's payroll. Ensures all payroll information is completed, coded correctly and entered accurately into the system.

2. Investigates and responds to payroll related inquiries and resolves issues regarding payments, wages, deductions, etc. Makes necessary corrections or changes. Completes documentation.

3. Trains and develops staff and department timekeeping representatives on required procedures and processes. Works with departments to research and develop solutions for problems, provides information and clarifies payroll requirements, ensures appropriate application of policies, law and regulations.

4. Responds to audits, internal and external inquiries, and regulatory agencies regarding payroll transactions. Provides reports and information as needed.

5. Remains up-to-date on all payroll processes and Federal and State rules and regulations. Serves as a back-up and coverage for the department.

6. Audits payroll and timekeeping system, makes recommendations for improvements and changes to the system.

7. Directly responsible (with support from Manager and Human Resources) for employee engagement and people supervision processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development and employee retention.

8. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or relevant field preferred
Experience
  • 3 years of responsible payroll experience required
  • Knowledge of California wage and hour laws required
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll preferred
  • Experience in the healthcare industry or a healthcare setting preferred
1 year of supervisory experience highly preferred
