Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The position of Pediatric ARNP or PA within the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) & Neurodevelopmental Disorders Program of Excellence (ASD NDPE) will be part of a multidisciplinary evaluation team (MDT) involved in the direct evaluation, and treatment of children between 12 months -18 years of age. In partnership with the Range Community Clinic, this position is responsible for working with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and faculty experts in providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment for ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

This position will report directly to the Lead Pediatrician in the ASD NDPE, and will be appointed in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. This position has an initial 2 year contract which is expected to be extended. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance, mutual consent, and available funding.

Clinical obligations will be conducted in compliance with Range Community Health Clinic, following all clinic procedures required for provision of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

80% Patient Medical Care:
  • Assist patients in obtaining services in timely manner, assure efficient utilization of the lead pediatricians schedule, and coordinate referrals and service authorization process and other aspects of patient care.
  • Provide patient assessment (including taking detailed patient history, performing physical examinations, noting patient observations), making diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. Provide medical care via telehealth services in addition to in-person clinics.
  • Provide psychiatric health services as needed, education, counseling, and emotional support.
  • Refer patients for inpatient or outside community care, as necessary.
  • Order laboratory tests, interpret and explain the test results to patient's family.
  • Provide patient/family education regarding medications, risks, benefits, and reasonable outcome expectations. (Is a teacher in new concepts for our patients).
  • Write prescriptions for medications and participate in WA state mandated peer review process as needed for medication authorization per WA State Healthcare Authority.
  • Participate in patient and family education regarding resources available in community
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians and other specialists in the community in providing comprehensive care for patients in our clinic.
  • Comply with timely completion of medical chart notes and maintaining medical records.

15% Non Clinical Work:
  • Community outreach, and participation on WSU and interinstitutional clinical research teams.
  • Provide clinical education for students in health sciences disciplines.
  • Participates in ongoing continuing medical education, including preparing topics for presentation to providers and staff.
  • Participates in non-clinical work such as routine peer review, quality improvement activities and policy review and development.

5% Other
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

A State of Washington Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license, prescriptive authority and National Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.

Additional Requirements:
  • Certification and licensure for practice as an ARNP or PA in WA State, maintain continuing education, and be willing to perform at the top of their training level and skills in collaboration with MD in clinic.
  • ARNP or PA will maintain DEA license with full prescriptive authority.
  • Current HIPAA training and agree to complete WSU COM HIPAA training within 30 days of hire.
  • Pediatric experience with children with autism, other developmental disabilities, and/or mental health conditions in childhood.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • A high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality to appropriately manage delicate and urgent patient situations.
  • Knowledge of medical science, the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders, treatment methods, and management of psychiatric conditions and medications.
  • Previous training or willing to attend additional training as needed, for common pediatric psychiatric conditions and behavior problems in patients with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Monthly Salary Range: $4,524.94-$7,077 for 60% FTE. This is commensurate with qualifications; overtime eligibility will be determined at time of hire.

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
