Philanthropy Officer Job at Hanover College
Hanover College is seeking experienced fundraising professionals as a philanthropy officer. The institution's goal is to hire an individual prior to February 1, 2023. Hanover will consider individuals residing within the Indianapolis, IN, Cincinnati, OH; Louisville, KY region, to work remotely.

The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for managing relationships with major donor prospects determined to have the ability to make gifts at or above $l0K with the goal of securing five ($25,000+) and six figure ($100,000+) contributions.
The Philanthropy Officer reports to the Associate Vice President of lndividual Philanthropy. This position is charged with developing and implementing strategies for securing financial support from a portfolio of donor prospects (between 150 and 200) including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts for the college from alumni, parents, and friends.
The Philanthropy Officer work independently and as a member of the College Advancement team, and coordinate their activities with those of other units in College Advancement and other units at the college.
Principal duties:
- Develops a caseload of active major gifts prospects, and set and carry out strategies for solicitation of these prospects
- Assumes and achieve annual fundraising and activity goals to be set in conjunction with the A VP of Individual Philanthropy and the Director of Prospect Management.
- Works independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors
- Works in a collegial manner with the development team in creating and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and closure
- Assesses prospect capacity and willingness to contribute and devise appropriate strategies to bring this individual to solicitation and closure
- Makes numerous decisions on cultivation time committed vs. expected gift response, determine who needs to be involved in the relationship with the prospective donor, and decide the most effective and productive use of travel time
- Assists in the long-range planning for the Individual Giving group
Knowledge and Experience:
- Proven experience in major individual gift fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, and irt cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of five and six-figure gifts
- Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising - able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior college administrators; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; ( 4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
- Understanding of the needs and interests of major donors to develop relationships between them and the College
- Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets, and estates
- Understanding of and practice with moves management processes

Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- A minimum of five years in fundraising with no less than three years in a major gifts role
- Familiarity with Raisers Edge
