Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Phlebotomy Supervisor to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY:
Order, collecting, process routine and specialty testing, and returning results back to doctor. Obtain, process doctors orders, and data entry. Provide good customer service on the phone to patients, doctors and other medical staff. Work well under pressure. Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling samples. Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory. Perform CLIA waived moderate testing. Supervises fellow employees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficiency in performing all the phlebotomy staff responsibilities while adhering to policies and procedures when performing phlebotomy duties.
- Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies. Track supply use, and oversee ordering of phlebotomy supplies for MVH location and Reference Labs when applicable.
- Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships with a wide range of organizations and specialists. Maintains effective working relationships between nursing, clerical, medical and allied health staff. Communicate with and educate other MVH department employees and Reference Labs as needed in relation to lab policies. Have working knowledge of current/changing processes and communicate with lab staff so everything is being done consistently.
- Help with solving problems within the lab. Let Lab Manager know about problems, solutions, and unsolved problems in the lab. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
- Interviewing potential employees. Assist with the hiring process. Orients, mentors, and trains new staff members.
- Work as a team player, while leading the team. Treat everyone equally in accordance to policy and procedure and in a professional manner. Lead by example of what is expected according to policies and procedures.
- Time Management:
- Track employee breaks and time off while maintaining monthly schedule. Report to Management/HR when applicable.
- Review Lab activity, and schedule staff accordingly and assign work stations. Keep accurate records of all duties, activities, and skills for phlebotomy staff in down time.
- Be available (answer calls) to resolve issues and/or answer questions during all scheduled Phlebotomy hours. Be available and knowledgeable about PRN’s available to cover for shifts or be available to cover when PRN’s not available.
- Check to make sure that problems that have been resolved or addressed have been efficiently and effectively. Communicate to phlebotomy team when changes need to be made to prevent problems for future situations.
- QA incoming and outgoing labs on a regular basis. Make sure these are being done correctly from collection to send out. Encourage staff to be aware of policies and procedures on a regular basis.
- Report all recorded activity with ideas/solutions and resolve issues in meetings with Management. Communicate issues/problems to management and staff appropriately. Review and report any/all complains to management when necessary.
- Recognize the need to educate and re-train phlebotomy staff, and then do so in a timely and considerate manner. Report and track any/all deviation from policies and procedures.
- Supervises, trains, orients and evaluates performance over assigned personnel. Recommends merit increases, promotions, disciplinary actions.
- Responsible for day-to-day operations of phlebotomy department including scheduling issues and makes necessary adjustments in work assignments. Oversees ordering of all supplies and ensures proper equipment operations and other duties or task for smooth laboratory operations.
- Helps maintain records of vacation, sick leave, and overtime.
- Conduct regular meetings with all phlebotomy staff. Serves on hospital wide committees as assigned.
- Oversee phlebotomy training / education.

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or higher. Current BLS Certification. Valid driver’s license.
Experience: Phlebotomy course and/or 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.
Equipment/Technology: Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
Language/Communication: The ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus. Must understand medical terminology as needed in the medical laboratory.
Mathematical Skills: General Math skills.
Mental Capabilities: Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.
Interpersonal: Good communication skills, and ability to work well with others. Team player and flexible.
Performance: Can work well under pressure and meet multiple and competing deadlines. Good customer service skills. Can recognize and understand the complexity and reflex-testing of laboratory complexity.
