Optimization of the Human Weapon System (OHWS) Services
The purpose of placing OHWS program Specialists in close proximity to aircrew is to reduce frequency and severity of injuries and time lost from service, improve long term quality of life, optimize human performance/ readiness, avoid injury prior to occurrence, increase aircrew production, and support fighter aircrew retention.
Introduction/Background:
Up to 85% of Air Force fighter aircrew surveyed reported some type of spine discomfort during their career. The OHWS program is designed to meet the unique physical needs of the rated fighter aircrew. Conditioning is accomplished through a comprehensive, coordinated, multidisciplinary “prehabilitative” physical training program with focused strength and conditioning, performance nutrition, and physical therapy. to perform injury prevention, pre-habilitation services, and human performance optimization services to rated personnel assigned to the applicable fighter aircraft units. The Contractor shall furnish consultation and reports, similar to the range of services found in a commercial facility, as well as services specialized to meet the needs of fighter aircrew.
Period of Performance (PoP): The Period of Performance shall be One (1) Base Year (12 months) and four (4) Option Years (12 months each).
The contractor shall provide services for the 124th Operations Group (OG), 124TH Fighter Wing(FW) at Gowen Field Airbase in Boise, Idaho.
Hours will not exceed 80 hours a week and will generally be 0800-1600 each workday during regular work weeks, and 1200-2000 during “night flying” weeks .The standard times will fluctuate based on the exact flying schedule but will not be in excess of an 8- hour day.
Special Qualifications:
The Physical Therapist must be a current Licensed Physical Therapist and hold a degree from an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) accredited institution specifically for “Physical Therapy.” No other degree will be accepted for this position. The Physical Therapist must have experience working with professional and/or collegiate athletes, or equivalent. A minimum of four (4) years’ experience is desired. The Physical Therapist must have experience working in an orthopedic out- patient physical therapy clinic or sports medicine clinic. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience is desired. Previous experience working with combat related injuries and fighter aircrew is strongly preferred.
