Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree. Have strong quantitative skills, familiarity with standard statistical packages, experience in data analyses, and effective writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD or MD in Epidemiology, Demography, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, or a closely related field. Experience working with longitudinal data. Work experience in low or middle-income countries. Strong publication record preferably in HIV, violence, childhood adversity and/or adolescent development.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will work on a study to better understand how violence influences HIV transmission risk in South African adolescents. The NIH-funded study is just completing data collection on 500 HIV+ and HIV- adolescent boys, including longitudinal survey data, clinic data, neurological screens, ecological momentary assessment data, and in-depth individual interviews. The candidate will contribute to data analyses and will be expected to prepare research manuscripts and presentations. The candidate will be encouraged to develop their own research questions within the scope of the project, and may be involved in future grant writing. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The Postdoctoral Associate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Rachel Kidman at Stony Brook. They will also collaborate closely with the second Principal Investigator, Avy Violari at the Pediatric HIV Research Unit in Soweto, South Africa.

  • Analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Attend Scientific Conferences and Meetings, preparing reports for NIH, overseeing graduate students, and liaising with the larger research team.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
