Our President will lead commercial activities in the business unit and will cast a strategic vision for the division and effectively communicate and lead the organization to achieving growth targets. This individual will be a proven commercial leader, with a track record of success in leading an organization that sells into CPG, and the ability to build and lead a first-class commercial organization. A highly intelligent and articulate leader and team player, this person will move quickly to make an impact on the business.

Responsibilities:
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Set the strategic vision for a key division of Graham Packaging, further entrenching the company as a leader in the packaging industry.
  • Work collaboratively with the other division presidents to create a balanced and coordinated strategy for the company.
  • Reporting directly to the CEO of Graham Packaging, collaborate and create opportunities the add value through synergizing the different divisions and businesses within Graham.
  • Develop robust commercial plans to drive targeted growth in line with vertical strategy. Define milestones and metrics to monitor and assess performance of strategic initiatives, particularly sales and income growth goals.
  • Build and maintain a strong team; this includes recruiting, training, and developing future leaders. This will require an executive who is an excellent judge of talent, one who has a proven record of attracting top performers and then mentoring them to outstanding levels of performance.
  • Direct the necessary research and critical analyses to continually monitor market position, competitive movements, pricing policies, customer trends, and other forces, which impact the organization.
  • Work strategically with operations within the division ensuring performance to target, with a strong focus on asset effectiveness, labor efficiency, waste and reliability. Provide outstanding service to customers and meet commitments.
Challenges in the First 12 Months:
  • Establish a foundation of trust from the CEO to the employees at the plant level.
  • Assess the current situation in the division and customer relationships and provide a vision, revise the business plan, and implement the plan resulting in the business realizing superior returns along with consistent growth.
  • Rapidly grasp the company’s current business, its strategic plans, and the state of the global organization. Further develop the non-core product strategy.
  • Evaluate and upgrade, if necessary, the existing talent found within the business; establish a vision and lead change; and be responsible for cultivating a culture which is market driven, and intensely competitive.
  • Successfully develop strong, collaborative cross-functional relationships across all levels of Graham.
  • Build strong relationships with customers to ensure an understanding of their needs, communicating a sense of commitment to them and to the marketplace, and creating a strong sense of brand loyalty within the customer bas
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership. Work to optimize costs.

Commercial Growth and Customer Relationships
- Establish relationships with all of the company’s customers, allowing the company to position its capabilities and value proposition in such a way that customers understand the full capabilities the organization brings to the marketplace. Through marketing initiatives, continue to prove to customers that the company knows their needs and can translate those into product innovation.
Drive and Manage Change - Successfully maneuver the company as it proceeds through its organization transformation while maintaining and even strengthening internal and external stakeholder relationship.
Operational Improvement - Balancing growth and costs are a requirement and demand an aggressive manufacturing strategy that ensures the company is constantly improving productivity, quality, and process optimization. Continue to create competitiveness through innovation and cost improvement in company’s manufacturing capability. Create aggressive growth plans that balance the need to invest and the requirement to grow profitably.
Expand Reach of the Business - Despite the difficulties involved with the point above, growth continues to be a priority and expansion of the business footprint must continue at an aggressive pace. Beyond the normal expectations of continued product development, evaluate expansion of the business through Greenfield projects, or other organic growth opportunities.

Specific requirements include:
Commercial/Growth History - The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of positive growth and a functional work history in the commercial arena. Must have a foundation of operational and technical expertise with the transition into commercial leadership. The hired candidate will directly interface with customers with the intent to strengthen the relationship leading to greater sales for the business.
Leadership - A leader who will have instant credibility and is able to motivate, and retain well-qualified individuals of diverse talents, interests, and cultural backgrounds. Must have the leadership presence to energize, drive and lead the teams, and to be a natural center of gravity in the business.
Commercial Acumen – outstanding business judgment and a proven ability to negotiate effectively in tough situations, balancing intelligent risk with the need to secure the base of business.

EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • A BA/BS degree in Engineering, Business or related is required.
  • An MBA or other advanced degree in Business Administration is highly desirable.
