Job Summary: The principal engineer position is responsible for supporting engineering, subtractive manufacturing and metrology efforts for the Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence located at the Center for Manufacturing Advancement. This role will oversee projects and staff to guide the creation of additive manufacturing technical data packages for the submarine industrial base.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships across multiple public and private organizations
- Work cross function with the CMA process engineer, CNC technologist, and machinist to ensure the successful execution of a wide range of subtractive manufacturing and inspection activities
- Ensure project compliance with data privacy and standard requirements including ITAR, ISO, ANSI, etc.
- Lead the creation of detailed and exhaustive documentation for technical processes and procedures
- Track project performance and budget requirements for projects in the additive manufacturing center of excellence
- Plan and implement process-engineering activities for new and existing projects
- Attend onsite/virtual and offsite stakeholder meetings as required
- Provide input for detailed work breakdown schedules, battle scorecards and external reports
- Performs other related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of NAVSEA technical publications
- Experience in a ITAR/NNPI environment
- Knowledge of various additive/subtractive manufacturing, dimensional inspection and NDT processes
- CNC experience including multi-axis machining, dual spindle lathes, mill/turn, etc.
- Siemens NX experience and knowledge
- Experience with ERP systems
- Experience managing project budgets, goals and outcomes
- Must demonstrate good communication skills, oral and written.
- Must be customer service oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and possess the ability to multi-task and troubleshoot in a multi-faceted work environment.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout Virginia as well as occasional out-of-state trips
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or closely related field required
- Must have a minimum of 10 years experience in
- Experience in ITAR and ISO work environment preferred
- Leadership experience in an engineering environment required
