SUMMARY:

The Printshop Assistant is responsible for assisting the MCAD Printshop and Paper Studio Director in providing administrative, technical, training and course support with day-to-day studio operations, by providing general assistance to MCAD students/faculty/staff.The Printshop Assistant must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.


DETAILS:
This is a part time, non-exempt, benefit eligible position, expected to work 25 hours a week. This position reports to Printshop and Paper Studio Director and is paid $16 hourly.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administrative:
    • Assists Director by staffing the studios during open hours and performs daily studio upkeep and maintenance.
    • Provides assistance to the MCAD community regarding proposals, access, and projects.
    • Assists Director with access list, inventory, recordkeeping, deliveries, coordinating projects.
    • Assists Director with check out/tracking of studio tools and equipment.
    • Maintains, updates, and designs new studio documents.
    • Collaborates with various departments of the college in relation to the Printshop in support of college initiatives.
    • Coordinates account payments and supply orders.
    • Provides training to hourly staff.
  • Course support:
    • Assists Director with studio preparation for classes on a daily basis by taking note of the needs of the studio per faculty syllabi.
    • Assists Director with specific preparation for classes including maintaining acids, chemicals, grounds, and pulp.
    • Assists Director with test plates and prints for calculating exposure times.
    • Assists Director with studio building projects to support the Print Paper Book curriculum.
    • Assists Director and other staff with deep cleaning tasks during the semester breaks.
    • Runs errands to get Printshop and Paper Studio supplies.
  • Technical:
    • Assists the Director and studio users with technical support.
    • Assists the Director with demonstrating print, paper, book processes as assigned.
    • Assists the Director with communicating proper safety procedures by meeting classes and updating SDS.
    • Acts as a resource for students during open hours, and assists with questions and helps with troubleshooting.
  • Assistance with Printshop/Paper Studio Special Events and workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Represents MCAD’s vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community.
Requirements:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BA degree in related field, MFA preferred.
  • Two or more years experience in advanced printmaking, papermaking, and bookmaking required.
  • Studio experience, training, or coursework in screen printing, intaglio, lithography, woodcut, photogravure, papermaking, print installation, print media, bookbinding, letterpress, and typesetting.
  • Experience working within a higher education environment is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong problem solving skills, communication skills and technical aptitude.
  • Computer skills, including Adobe Creative Cloud and Google Docs.

  • Ability to lift, carry and perform standing and seated tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication and collaborate across departments.
  • Positive attitude, able to work well with various personality types.

ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
