Production Field Technician Job at EO Johnson Business Technologies
JOB SUMMARY
The Production Field Technician drives to customer locations, meets with end users to determine the problem or need, and then makes repairs or performs maintenance as needed. The Production Field Technician primarily supports and troubleshoots high speed or high volume finishing equipment used by the reprographics industry, such as Horizon brand, which requires a high degree of mechanical aptitude as well as a quick response time. Problems can be related to something mechanical, electronic, computer network, media, software, or customer induced from lack of training. Service calls are lengthy which can possibly lead to overtime and occasional on-call for nights and weekend support. Previous experience or knowledge of specific equipment is not required; EO Johnson will provide the training and tools you need to be successful.
The servicing area would include central to southern Wisconsin (which includes Madison, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo, Portage) and possibly northeastern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates daily activities between:
- Service call dispatch personnel regarding service call activity and completion
- Parts personnel for the procuring and status of repair parts
- Management to ensure that all possible resources have been made available for the proper maintenance and repair of equipment
- Other production technicians to identify effectiveness of corrective actions in the field
- Customers to insure corrective and preventatitve measures meet customer’s satisfaction
- Sales personnel regarding customer concerns or potential machine replacement
Responsible for the following training tasks:
- Trains customers and users in the operation and functionality of new equipment
- Utilizes self-paced, group, and conventional classroom training programs to maintain technical skills as mandated by industry standards, which may require traveling out of state
- Trains on media and document creation software (ie, Fiery or Prisma Sync)
Maintains the following:
- EO Johnson supplied tools and computing devices in top operating condition
- A vehicle in reliable condition allowing parts to be secured in an organized manner
- A detailed accurate inventory of parts and supplies to maintain the fleet assigned to you
- Shop tools and work space within our office to support an organized and safe area
Responsible for income generation through:
- Referrals to sales department personnel identifying potential to place new equipment
- Accurately billing for services rendered to install and maintain equipment
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience servicing complex mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience working in a team-oriented, customer facing environment
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- College diploma in Electromechanical, Information Technology or related field or military training/experience
Preferred Certifications:
- CompTIA Network + or A+
- Security+

- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Detailed orientated and organized
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with constant ongoing training
- Excellent verbal and written customer focused communication skills in order to effectively respond in a professional and friendly manner
- Highly self-motivated and directed
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Must be effective at troubleshooting, problem solving, and coordinating solutions with outside vendors, users, and information technology staff
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires driving regularly
- Maintain a good driving record and have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel with occasional overnights

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required stand, pull/push over 50 pounds, lift or carry up to 50 pounds, bend/stoop/crouch, kneel, twist and turn and talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach shoulder height and below shoulder height, pull/push 25 pounds or less, lift or carry over 50 pounds, and have repetitive movement (fine motor like typing, writing, keyboarding, filing). The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach above shoulder height, climb, and crawl.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
