Position Description:
Under the direction of the RSS Director, Program Director, and/or designee, the Psychometrician is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing standardized evaluations or other problem-solving methods. The Psychometrician will work individually and with small groups of students to assist with identified academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral needs. The Psychometrician will have strong communication skills (both written and oral) and participate in PPT meetings by interpreting assessment results, recommending assessment-linked interventions, and employing problem-solving strategies. Overall, the Psychometrician will work collaboratively with staff, families and the school community in designing systems, programs, and services that maximize student’s social, emotional, and educational success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts psychological assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to maximize learning and overcoming psychological issues.
Conducts individual or group therapy for students with skill deficits who would benefit from behavioral programming, clinical interventions, and/or social skills training.
Assists with the identification and classroom placement of all types of exceptional students.
Coordinates with leadership and other professional staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs and familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.
Attends PPT meetings as needed for students with special needs.
Provides consultation to PPT teams in developing appropriate IEP goals and objectives, as they relate to academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral deficits.
Serves as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology and conducts in-service programs and other professional development as requested.
Facilitate discussions, provide support and information to families and other staff in need of out of school community resources to assist with addressing student and family needs, and maintains ongoing communication with outside service providers.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Attend meetings such as monthly reviews, clinical meetings, classroom meetings and peer reviews to collaborate with team members about students’ needs and related evidence-based interventions.
Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents and/or community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of methods of assessment, including methods of traditional psychoeducational assessment (e.g., standardized tests of intelligence, achievement, adaptive behavior) and non-traditional assessment (e.g., curriculum-based assessment)
Knowledge of systematic processes to collect data, data analysis, data-based decision making, and formulation and evaluation of action plans
Ability to translate assessment results into empirically based decisions about service delivery and to evaluate outcomes of service.
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student’s strengths and skill deficits
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws in the areas of education, special education, and other applicable areas (e.g., emergency use of restraint and seclusion).
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding ongoing performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Ability and eagerness to build upon the current foundation under the leadership of River Street School.

Physical, Mental Demands, and Work Hazards:
Works in standard office and school building environment
Must meet the requirements of Safety Care Training
MA/MS or EdS in School, Clinical or Educational Psychology required
PhD or Psy D in School, Clinical or Educational Psychology preferred
Applicants with knowledge of and/or experience in utilizing principles of Applied Behavior Analysis are strongly encouraged to apply (BCBA or BCBA-D preferred).
A Valid Connecticut State Department of Education certification
Strong organizational and time management skills
Bilingual skills highly preferred
Must obtain and maintain certification in QBS Safety Care Crisis Prevention Training
