Position: Program Assistant
Program: Stepping Stones/Safe Haven
Supervisor: Program Director
Basic Work Hours/Days: Primary Hours 7am-3pm or 3pm – 11pm, Friday - Sunday and Holidays (16-25 hours/week); occasional weeknight 11pm-7am if desired
JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of this position is overseeing the evening activities at Pathways' shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness. The position will assist to provide care for residential clients and ensure their safety at all times during the shift. Assist clients with daily tasks and maintain physical aspect of the shelter. This position requires communication with the program Social Worker, other staff members, and clients.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Client Services
Conduct face-to-face check-ins with guests and provide any needed follow up as requested by the program Social Worker
Serve meals to guests during dinner
Assign and monitor completion of daily chores with shelter program guests
Document notable client interactions with staff, volunteers and other clients
Report pertinent client and program concerns to the program Social Worker
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients
Reinforce agency/program guidelines and expectations with clients
Receive incoming medications, count for accuracy and place in proper client bin
Monitor prescription and over the counter medication ingestion to ensure medication compliance
Follow medication check-out procedure when guest exit the shelter program
Distribute personal care items to guests
Conduct weekly room checks and report issues or concerns to program Social Worker
Provide crisis intervention and safety planning to clients
Keep communication log book updated with materials/information
Building Management
Ensure the safety and security of the building; including completion of walk-throughs.
Document and respond to critical incidents according to policy
Clean and organize house manager’s office work space.
Job Requirements
Maintain program and client confidentiality
Review communication log book at the beginning of each shift
Check staff email account during each shift
Communicate with other staff during shift exchange
Attend and participate in program and staff meetings and/or trainings
Prepare written and verbal reports as required
Stay abreast of and follow all agency and program policies and procedures
Monitor front desk, answer phones, distribute resident’s mail once sorted by Admin
Work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers
Record hours worked accurately by clocking in and out for each shift
Perform other duties as assigned by program Social Worker and/or Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma/GED
A minimum of one year experience in a social service organization, preferably working in a residential setting with women and children who have been abused and/or homeless
Must possess an acceptance and respect for cultural diversity, sexual orientations, gender identities, and religious backgrounds
Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license and insurable under agency’s auto policy
Must be a team player and willing to assist other staff and guests
Have the ability to multi-task, possess good time management and organizational skills
Must have good listening skills and show empathy towards others
Must have strong oral and written communication skills
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
