WASTEWATER Job Summary

Works with the Water and Wastewater Divisions as assigned and as funding allows. Must be available for overtime as needed. .

Essential Job Functions

  • PERFORMS repairs and maintenance on Wastewater Collection system, including sewer collection mains, sewer line manholes, and sewer line clean outs.
  • MOVES generator or compressor from flat bed truck to ground (load = 100 lbs.), moves manhole cover to gain access to manhole (load = 118 lbs.).
  • ASSISTS with valve wrench in a push/pull fashion, and dispenses sewer hose from truck (push/pull force = 65 lbs., distance = 250 ft.).
  • ASSISTS with equipment such as Vactor trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, skid loader and television inspection devices and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of sewers.
  • ASSISTS with minor maintenance on all assigned operating equipment and tooling.
  • PERFORMS landscaping work following planned or emergency repairs to the Wastewater Collection system.
  • PERFORMS other maintenance related duties in Water Utilities Division, as required.
  • PERFORMS daily checks on assigned vehicles to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • PERFORMS inventory and accountability on all crew assigned tools, parts and equipment.
  • OPERATES and PERFORMS service and minor maintenance on equipment. USES various types of hand tools. CLEANS and MAINTAINS tools, vehicles, and shop area.9. PERFORMS all related duties as assigned. Must be available for overtime as needed.
  • ADHERES to City of Hurst Code of Ideals.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to learn and adhere to the City of Hurst Code of Ideals.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing repair, materials and construction procedures preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret water utility system mapping.
  • Ability to learn to operate and maintain equipment and tools used to repair and maintain water system infrastructure.
  • Ability to learn and follow oral and written instructions, and to learn and obey safety procedures.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, twisting, standing, and walking for extended period of time in adverse conditions, including extreme heat, cold, moisture, dust, and fumes, at various heights, and in confined spaces.

Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements

Valid State of Texas driver's license with a good driving record required. High school diploma or equivalent and one year related experience preferred.

1. PERFORMS maintenance and repairs on water system infrastructure, i.e., water mains, water main controlling valves, fire hydrants, water services and water meters.
2. MOVES generator or compressor from flat bed truck to ground (load = 100 lbs.) and MOVES manhole cover to gain access to manhole (load = 118 lbs.)
3. TURNS T wrench on check valve in a push/pull fashion and PUSH/PULLS sewer hose to disperse from truck (push/pull force = 65 lbs., distance = 250 ft.).
4. PERFORMS minor maintenance on all assigned operating equipment and tooling.
5. PERFORMS landscaping work following repairs to the water utilities system.
6. ARRIVES at work on time and WORKS assigned schedule.
7. PERFORMS daily checks on assigned vehicles to ensure proper and safe operation.
8. PERFORMS inventory and accountability on all crew assigned tools, parts and equipment.
9. PERFORMS standby duty for emergency repairs on weekends, holidays, and nights, as scheduled.
10. PERFORMS duties related to Wastewater Collection and Water Production, as assigned.
11. PERFORMS duties at “EXTREME HEIGHTS” related to Elevated Storage Tank Facilities.
12. PERFORMS all other duties as assigned.
