Job Title: Qualified Mental Health Associate
Department: Ko-Kwel Wellness Center
Reports to: Lead Mental Health Therapist
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Salary Range: $21.38 - $34.74
Location: Coos Bay/North Bend, Oregon
This position is a covered position as defined in the Coquille Indian Tribe Chapter 185 Child Protection Ordinance. Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screen, Criminal, and Character Background Check. The Mental Health Therapist provides services to Native American and non-Native American patients of the Ko-Well Wellness Center.
SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS
The Qualified Mental Health Associate provides case management and skills training to clients diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness and experiencing substance abuse disorder. Services will be offered in individual and group settings utilizing evidence-based clinical practice and skills in compliance with program standards. A Mental Health Professional will provide clinical supervision for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Collect and compile information for assessing client functioning and goals.
2. Provide life skill training for clients including individual and group education to build skills for, budgeting, time management, organization, job skills, stress management, assertiveness, conflict resolution and vocational goals.
3. Act as a liaison as needed with other community agencies.
4. Provide case management to clients relevant to needs identified within a comprehensive treatment plan.
5. Assist individuals to obtain public benefits when necessary.
6. Collect and compile information to assist clients to obtain housing and/or employment as identified on a comprehensive service plan.
7. Coordinate care/services with the KWC treatment team, employers, job coaches/developers, advocates, and others.
8. Advocate for individuals to obtain needed resources.
9. Coordinate with the Coquille Indian Housing Authority to assists tribal members with substance abuse disorders or mental health to supported housing resources.
10. Pursue ongoing continuing education to stay current/up to date with best practice standards.
11. Provide follow up to patients/clients in person or by phone identified by the Behavioral Health team or other care team members.
12. Participate in outreach activities necessary to offer services and engage participation in a non-coercive manner.
13. Provide educational information and materials to patients regarding available services in the community and how to appropriately access them.
14. Maintain all client documentation in accordance with program standards, funding requirements, bill for any billable services through our electronic health record.
15. Demonstrate communication and conflict management skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to manage stressful situations that are often part of mental health treatment provisions. Treatment activities will include facilitating and participating in a variety of outdoor treatment activities with moderate to challenging physical demands. Office work is primarily sedentary, although walking, bending, lifting packages, and working in small-enclosed areas will be involved. This position will occasionally travel to other locations to provide outdoor or community-based activities and/or provide service to clients in their own homes.
The individual must perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation efficiently and accurately without causing a significant safety threat to self or others.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Knowledge of principles and techniques of youth and family interventions.
2. Knowledge of community structure, values, culture of the population served.
3. Abstinence during employment in this capacity is essential to the overall effectiveness of the program. Individuals in recovery from the disease of alcoholism and/or from other drug dependence must affirm that previous employment performance has not been impaired by alcoholism/substance abuse for over the past 2 years.
4. Knowledge of principles and techniques of basic interviewing and assessment skills.
5. Knowledge and skills in crisis intervention.
6. Knowledge of community resources.
7. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients/clients, families and with other staff members of KWC.
REQUIRED Qualifications
A. QHMA certification recognized by Oregon state statute.
B. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work, or related field or three years of education and qualifying experience.
C. At least 1 year of related behavioral health experience.
D. Healthcare background and experience with Native American patients is preferred.
E. Certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor is preferred.
F. Ability to organize and conduct group and recreational activities.
G. Ability to plan and organize work and complete assignments in a timely manner.
H. Basic computer word processing skills.
I. Current and valid Oregon driver’s license in good standing with no insurability issues as determined by the Tribe’s insurance carrier is required.
