Quality Inspector

1st Shift

PURPOSE/ SUMMARY:
Perform dimensional and visual inspections and the associated quality reports on patterns, castings, machined metal and plastic parts for workmanship and conformance to design documentation in 2d or 3D format. Requirements are to be interpreted from design / process drawings, procedures and specifications. Data analyzed from these inspection operations are documented in quality and non-conformance reports

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain quality departmental documentation, in written and computer formats, supporting inspection, certification reviews and nonconformance reporting.

• Using CMM and/or hand devices such as verniers, calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, height gauges, fixtures, etc. performs first article and first piece inspection as appropriate of patterns, castings, machined metal and of complex geometries using customer supplied prints and some CAD interpretation.
• Performs close tolerance dimensional checks using high complexity prints and a thorough knowledge of GD&T
• Independently sets-up, programs and operates CMM for complex parts and programs CMMs for repeated inspection of parts as required
• Completes 100% inspection reports on 1st piece machined parts
• Exercises independent judgment to determine methods for inspection technique and maintains part inspection programs to assure they are to current print requirements
• Calibrates shop and personal tools
• Assists in engineering, transfers mark-up and creates inspection strategies when required
• Meets quality and quantity standards for the position
• Documents actions by completing production routers and Inspection Methods Sheets

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent with 8 years minimum related experience OR Associates degree

Prior DQR “Designated Quality Representative” experience is a PLUS.

Previous experience as supervisor or team lead.

Working knowledge of GD&T, AS9102 FAIRs, and all facets of inspection measuring equipment.
Previous experience as Quality Inspector or DQR in an Aerospace manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills. Proven track record of successful leadership, situation analysis, detail-orientation, and best safety practices.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products, related business applications and office equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree or equivalent knowledge to obtain expertise in departmental inspection equipment, and processes, and other Quality objectives.

5- 10 years’ Aerospace Inspection management experience in a machine shop environment
Familiarity with Process Improvement
