JOB SUMMARY

Administers ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Adjusts patient interaction and/or treatment to match each patient’s age specific developmental, educational, or other related needs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited CAHEA radiation therapy program with a minimum of three years experience in radiation therapy.
• CPR certification
• ARRT certification and IEMA licensure
• Must have excellent personal and communication skills
• Must be able to stand for long periods at a time and lift heavy objects.

JOB DUTIES

• Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers. *
• Accurately delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy according to department and IDNS standards. Practices aseptic techniques: works in an efficient matter; achieves results. *
• Prepares treatment room/equipment according to the prescription and department specific guidelines. Handles equipment carefully. Insures the safety of patients and co-workers. Alerts the appropriate personnel or vendor if equipment is malfunctioning or defective.
• Observes patients for unusual reactions and events and reports to the nurse or Radiation Oncologist. *
• Explains treatment and simulation procedures to patients and family members. Answers questions related to treatment or refers patient to appropriate staff to answer questions.
• Practices effective communication skills in interactions with patients, families, and physicians within the department and hospital. *
• Charts appropriate information correctly. Maintains confidentially of information and follows HIPAA guidelines. *
• Attends departmental continuing education conferences. Maintains IDNS licensure and ARRT certification. Establishes and achieves self -development goals.
• Schedules patients for daily appointments utilizing the hospital’s computer scheduling system. Schedules patients according to volume, patient’s needs, and needs of other departments.
• Records and maintains statistics at the request of the Director of Radiation Oncology.
• Performs daily QA on the treatment machine.
• Performs final chart audit when patients finish their course of therapy.
• Prepares patients to start radiation therapy treatments by writing up patient charts, entering information into IMPAC, performing MU calculations, etc.
• Simulates and assists in CT for 3-D treatment planning.
• Does billing daily and ensures that billing is done correctly.
• Performs diode measurements.
