Radiologic Technologist Job at Montana State University

Manage radiology services for the MSU SHP Medical Services and function as a practicing radiologic technologist; support reaccreditation 3-year cycles with AAAHC.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties: As a Radiologic Technologist and Radiology Manager:
Prepare patients for diagnostic imaging exam including, but not limited to: making patients feel at ease with procedure; having patients remove jewelry and relevant clothing; explaining the procedure and any patient instruction; positioning appropriately; adjusting immobilization devices; moving x-ray equipment into correct position and angle for the body part being examined.
Adjust x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of the appropriate density, detail and contrast of the body part being examined while minimizing radiation exposure to patients and staff by following radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
Assure final X-ray report is received from radiologist in a timely fashion; discuss results with ordering providers and consulting radiologist (MD specialist); manage and distribute electronic reports from the Radiologist to MSU providers.
Must be able to function independently without a radiologist on site.
Assist UHP Medical Services clinical staff by helping fit splints, orthopedic boots, crutches, etc. on patients with orthopedic injuries. Explain to patients how to use these devices.
Keep radiology protocols up to date; other clinic policies and procedures as needed.
Perform routine maintenance on all equipment; arrange for regular professional preventive maintenance; seek repairs when needed, and function as the clinic’s radiation safety officer.
Liaison with consulting radiologists and with Bozeman Health Radiology Department (all digital radiographic images are stored at Bozeman Health).

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Graduate of an accredited program for Radiologic Technologists (usually an Associate Degree program).
Current Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Current Montana License to practice as a Radiologic Technologist or ability to obtain by start of job.
Experience working as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital or outpatient setting within the past 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Experience working as the lone Radiologic Technologist in an outpatient setting.
Demonstrated excellent written and customer service skills.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to certify in BLS following hire.

Able to work independently and also collaboratively with the health care team
Representing Medical Services and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
Current Montana License to practice as a Radiologic Technologist.
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain BLS certification.
