PRIMARY FUNCTION
As part of the inter-facility transport team, the critical care RN serves as the primary provider on Advanced Lift Support and Critical Care transports. Supported by ambulance crew, the Critical Care RN serves as the lead provider responding to ALS/CCT calls assigned. The Critical Care Nurse also interacts with physicians, nurses, allied health staff, the patient and family members to provide a safe and hazard free transport environment. The Critical Care RN is ultimately responsible for supervising the care, ongoing assessment, and treatment of the patient during transport to the receiving facility.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide quality patient care utilizing critical care nursing skills including, ACLS protocols, transport orders, current pharmacological knowledge and/or new concepts in medical treatment during transportation.
- Communicate with the transferring nurse to obtain patient report, complete nursing critical care transportation documentation en route and report any changes to the nurse upon arrival at the receiving facility
- Communicate with receiving facility and dispatch department during transport
- Communicate with patients, family members, medical personnel, and the general public in verbal and written form
- Possess reliable transportation and report to work punctually and in proper uniform for all scheduled shifts
- Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation with regard to transport equipment inspection, supplies usage incidents and other forms of documentation inherent in the operation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess current RN license
- 2 years primary assignment within ICU or ED required
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass drug screen, criminal background check, and pre-employment behavioral interview
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to access interior of the ambulance (step of up to 22 inches) using OEM equipment unassisted
- Periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending and turning
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs of equipment and medical bags unassisted
- Frequent movement in the back of the ambulance in tight conditions
- Frequent assistance with transferring patient from bed to stretcher and vice-versa.
- Able to operate motor vehicle without restrictions
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects safely with assistance and without difficulty.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty and the ability to lift and carry 300 pounds up and down one flight of stairs (16 – 19 steps) safely with assistance.
