JOB SUMMARYThe Registered Respiratory Therapist performs basic and advanced therapeutic, diagnostic and life support respiratory care procedures in general and intensive patient care areas. They will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages, as appropriate to service area. They will present with tact and good medical ethics at all times when dealing with patients, medical staff, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel. Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required. Will successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position.

EDUCATIONAssociate degree and/or certification required from a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation of Respiratory Care Education) approved school of respiratory therapy.

LICENSURE

Employee must have obtained the RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential by passing the exam given by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Maintain current license to practice Respiratory Care issued by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care.

This will be source verified yearly by Human Resources Department.

EXPERIENCENo prior experience required. One to three years’ experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONRequired: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Certification by National Board for Respiratory Care

COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS

He/she must possess the ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

He/she must possess the basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

He/she must possess ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

He/she must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

He/she must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
