We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join our company at our Johnston, Iowa facility. The Research Associate will serve as part of a multi-crop team supporting seed processing and distribution with many functions that detail field capabilities out of the Johnston Research Center.

  • Contribute to joint success of trial execution for all functional groups at the station.

  • Collaborate with local and departmental staff to collect timely data and summarize results, noting problem areas during data collection, and recommending actions to be taken where needed for all crops grown at the Center.

  • Learn and use cutting edge digital tools/technology for research validation.

  • Participate in station activities which may include planting, harvesting, field maintenance, equipment operation, experiment planning, location mapping, and seed preparation activities.

  • Maintain and improve the efficiency and safety of daily workplace operations.

  • Supervise contract labor and interns to complete center research activities according to protocols while ensuring a safe working environment.

  • During downtime from core responsibilities, will be requested to assist with other areas of the research center functional operations.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor/associate degree in agricultural/biological sciences preferred or 2-4 years related experience required.

  • Ability to develop a working relationship with team members by exhibiting effective communication and personal interaction skills with a diverse group of people.

  • Attention to details in a deadline driven environment. Self-motivation and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving.

  • Ability to work independently while setting high expectations.

  • Familiarity with production agriculture with the ability to operate agricultural machinery, especially research or field production equipment is preferred.

  • Adept at using standard software programs and learning internal data systems.

  • Demonstrate skills in leadership, operational safety, supervision, and time management.

  • Knowledge of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and/or experimental field plot design.

  • Capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time.

  • Flexibility to work extended days and/or hours at critical times of the season. Some overnight stays during peak times may be required.

  • A valid driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain a CMV license if needed.

  • Ability to obtain a pesticide private applicators license, part 107 UAS FAA (Drone) pilot license and become forklift certified if needed.
