Research Associate I - GPP Job at Broad Institute
Job Description
The R&D team in the
Genetic Perturbation Platform
at the
Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard
is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our group as a Research Associate I. Our group develops and pressure-tests the latest approaches in functional genomics, such as CRISPR technology, and then uses these tools to collaborate with researchers across many biological areas to discover the functions of genes and understand how gene dysfunction leads to disease.
This position offers a unique opportunity to be a lead contributor to cutting-edge technology development with widespread impact across the Broad community and the world. We are committed to mentoring research associates to further their skills, and have a strong history of ensuring that RAs take lead roles in publications, give presentations, attend conferences, and ultimately position themselves for the next step in their careers, whether in graduate school, medical school, industry, or advancement within the Broad.
Although training in the life sciences and experience with any of the items listed in characteristic duties is helpful, the Broad is a dynamic environment in which people from many intellectual backgrounds – mathematics, chemistry, the humanities – can thrive, and thus we are more interested in candidates with a clear record of achievement, a drive for conducting impactful research, and a desire to learn, rather than specific technical skills.
Characteristic duties:
-
Large-scale genetic screens in mammalian cell culture with CRISPR-Cas9 technology
-
Traditional molecular biology techniques, such as DNA purification, PCR, etc.
-
Data analysis using Python
-
Preparation of figures for presentations and manuscripts
Required skills:
-
Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience
-
Should be a self-motivated and curious experimentalist
-
Demonstrated ability to think creatively to solve problems
-
Strong writing skills are particularly valued
-
Outstanding organization and time management with attention to detail
-
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
-
Interest in staying with the Broad for at least two years
The Broad Institute will not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity,
national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
