Seeking Data Collectors/Classroom Observers:

The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) at Rutgers University is seeking Data Collectors/Classroom Observers to conduct classroom observations to study early childhood education in Philadelphia, PA (multiple sites). Applicants preferred: graduate students, applicants with a BA/BS, or current upperclassman undergraduate students focusing on child development, early childhood, psychology, or related field, withholding an excellent academic record (GPA of 3.0 or better). In addition, knowledge about child development and developmentally appropriate early childhood teaching practices is preferred (e.g., Teacher, Classroom Observer, etc.). Experience in classroom settings and/or working with children is highly preferred.

  • Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 3 days per week between January 2023 to May 2023 during regular school hours (7:30 AM - 1:00 PM) and be consistent throughout the data collection period. Depending on project needs, there is a possibility to transition to other projects during 2023.
  • Target hiring areas: Philadelphia, PA (you may travel up to a 1-hour distance, applicants can reside outside of PA).
  • Schedules are flexible though applicants must be available to attend intensive 4-day VIRTUAL training (paid) (attendance to each day, for its entirety, is necessary to be considered). The training dates are flexible but will likely be during January 2023.
  • Preferred:* Experience using the CLassroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) (Pre-K).*
  • Pay is $150.00 for a 2 ½ - 3 ½ hour observation. This pay is in relation to the number of hours it will take to complete these observations.
  • All Data Collectors must have reliable transportation; a valid driver’s license; must complete a background check and research compliance certifications; and will be required to follow all project and state health regulations regarding COVID-19, which includes full vaccination.
