Job Title: Research Licensed Vocational Nurse-AD#1175
POSITION SUMMARY: Full time position. The Research LVN performs a broad range of activities, including any combination of the following:
Recruit and enroll participants for clinical research studies, including determining participant eligibility, physical assessment, review of medical history and obtaining informed consent.
Train participants regarding their role in a clinical research study
Conduct research-related activities during study visits as specified in clinical research protocols including, but not limited to, blood draws (venipuncture or capillary puncture), measurement and recording of subject vital signs, sample collection and processing for laboratory testing, and EKGs
Where appropriate titrate/administer/dispense study medications for/to research study participants
Monitor study participants for adverse effects and ensure timely reporting of adverse effects
Recognize emergent situations and initiate appropriate interventions
Collect research data and enter into case report forms
Maintain complete and accurate research data logs and documentation of all study participant-related activities
Participate in clinical research quality assurance activities
Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of clinical research procedures, guidelines, and federal regulations, and/or protocol-specific requirements as applicable
Other duties may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, and with minimal direct supervision. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required:
Registered as full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical/vocational nurse in California
Active BLS certification
Work Schedule will be Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Ability or willingness to be trained to perform standard phlebotomy procedures
Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocol requirements and standard operating procedures
Ability to work with a team of research professionals in a clinical environment
Ability to work with and maintain confidential research information with professionalism
Ability to use sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
Strong organizational skills and ability to perform duties with minimal direct supervision
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Preferred:
IV certification
Working knowledge of safety guidelines pertaining to blood collection, handling and processing
General office, administrative/clerical, and/or research experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited LVN/LPN training program
Minimum of two years’ experience as a medical assistant and/or certified nursing assistant
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluent in the English language
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret specific duties of a research protocol
Ability to respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from customers
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as time requirements for specific study activities, blood sample volume, and/or dollars and cents
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Ability to effectively and efficiently use the following: copier, fax, computer, printer, basic software such as spreadsheet and word processing, and basic laboratory equipment.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Frequent extended periods of sitting while performing computer work or other clerical duties
Occasional to frequent extended periods of standing and bending over while performing blood testing and processing
