Residential Counselor/ Direct Support Professional

As a Full-time (37.5 hours) Residential Counselor / Direct Support Professional (DSP), you assist individuals in developing independent living skills to increase their self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and self-worth. You provide hands-on training and assist with the activities of daily living as well as provide counseling, behavioral intervention, and crisis management. You are responsible for the administration of the community residence in the absence of the Assistant Administrator.

By coaching others in the areas of home maintenance and cleanliness, you ensure that the home is a healthy and safe environment. You provide transportation and accompany others as needed for shopping, medical appointments, recreational activities, and other outings. You are meticulous about reporting any changes or concerns promptly, you keep up-to-date and accurate records of interactions and progress. You find the opportunity to participate in residents' lives very rewarding!

If any medical or psychiatric emergencies occur, you immediately notify the Assistant Administrator or Residential Administrator. You also get to participate in the planning, evaluation, and monitoring of individual service plans. You advocate for residents' benefits and coordinate with local service providers. As you assist residents in accessing services and help plan for discharge, you find a great deal of satisfaction in their progress.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR / DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

• High School Diploma with related experience required
• Bachelor's Degree in Human Services preferred
• Physical Requirements: Sits, stands, stoops, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours, may push or pull 10-15 pounds daily, may push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• A valid NYS driver's license and safe driving record are REQUIRED for this position.

Shift: Wednesday (9am-6:30pm), Thursday (11am-9pm), Friday (7am-5pm), Saturday (8am-6pm)
