- Standard Work Duties: Team Lead - Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of Respiratory Care Services. Responsible for maintenance of the team's schedule.
- Determines resources required to meet patients’ needs and makes assignments accordingly.
- Monitors productivity, adjusts assignments and staffing levels as census and care demands change throughout the shift.
- Rounds on patients and staff throughout shift; reviews plan of care and revises as necessary; conducts ongoing assessment of staff competency; coaches staff and provides just in time learning opportunities; proactively addresses issues; facilitates effective relationships between team members and other disciplines; audits adherence to best practices, quality initiatives and regulatory standards.
- Promotes the professional growth and development of team members through coaching and ongoing staff development. Supervises the orientation of new employees, assesses the ongoing competence of all employees and conducts annual performance appraisals and 90-day performance appraisals with RCS Clinical Supervisor and Managers.
- Reports directly to RCS Clinical Supervisor.
- Functions as an integral member of the interprofessional team; serves as a resource for clinical staff; maintains proficiency with clinical skills and competencies; engages in interprofessional rounds; participates in hospital/department quality initiatives; responds to emergent situations, direct care and provides resources as appropriate.
- Set up and operate devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary.

- Demonstrates accountability for shift/team operations and care/service delivery to support achievement of organizational priorities.
- Coaches front line team members to support ongoing professional development and hardwire technical and professional capabilities.
- Creates a high performing team by building strong relationships, delegating work and nurturing commitment and engagement.
- Manages team conflict/issues implementing appropriate corrective actions, improvement plans and regular performance evaluations.
- Applies change management best practices and standard work to support departmental changes and ensure effective team transition.
- Promotes a healthy and safe culture to advance system, team and service experience.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Essential:
- Associate Degree
- Bachelor Degree
Education equivalent experience:
Essential:
- Health Science; AMA Accredited School of Respiratory Care
Other information:
Experience Essential:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Registry eligible CRT (will obtain RRT within 6 months of role) or Grandfathered CRT; NBRC Credentialed, Certifications per department or hospital requirements and relevant policies.
- Professional/technical/or charge role or other work appropriate to the team leader position.
Experience Preferred:
- Previous supervisory experience.
- OSHA Working Standards.
Certifications Essential:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Registry eligible CRT (will obtain RRT within 6 months of role) or Grandfathered CRT; NBRC Credentialed, Certifications per department or hospital requirements and relevant policies.
- Must maintain BLS/ACLS/PALS/Stable/NRP.
Licenses Essential:
Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of Florida.
