JOB SUMMARY: This position is for a licensed professional who is responsible for providing safe and
appropriate nursing oversight and care management nursing services to individuals that receive support by
Frontier Community Services (FCS) in the Valdez location in accordance with policy and procedure, state
professional standards and regulations, and other regulatory entities. In addition, the Registered Nurse is
responsible for a wide variety of program and agency duties to assist all FCS departments and enhance the
efficiency of the agency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Organize and communicate priorities and goals of Nursing Department. Provide
nursing oversight and management services for eligible waiver participants/patients in Valdez. Care/Case
management for adult populations. This includes coordination of care as well as physical assessment. Stand as a
nursing resource for group home staff in adult populations. Ability to provide nursing interventions and
advocacy for adult group home populations. Training of staff in medication administration and other nurse
delegable duties. Facilitate patient care by assessing patient needs, evaluating treatment options, creating
treatment plans, coordinating care, and gauging progress. Full supervisory responsibilities for the day-to-day
activities of a medical coordinator on the team; including task assignment, training, performance
review/evaluation of job competencies and disciplinary/corrective actions as indicated. Also ensuring the
delivery of quality, cost-effective care. Meet with supervisor to discuss departmental or nursing/medical needs,
issues, and concerns. Provide training including medication assistance and medication administration for new
direct support professionals (DSP’s) as well as biannual medication review training for all FCS DSP’s. Perform
screening process for all potential CCMC waiver candidates and submit the supporting documentation
(screening form, ROI’s, VOD and assessment summary) to the state for ranking. Perform monthly home visits
for all Individuals that receive support who have nursing oversight and care management in his or her plan of
care in Valdez. Provide medication monitoring/oversight of health-related issues to FCS group home
individuals that receive support. Prepare and submit nursing documentation for new and ongoing Medicaid
waivers. Maintain nursing/medical records in accordance with FCS policies and procedures, program
requirements, and state or federal regulations. Plan and implement nursing department direction in accordance
with agency policy and procedures and state guidelines. Must be knowledgeable of Alaska State Board of
Nursing as well as federal and state laws and regulations. Perform all duties in a manner to promote team
concept and reflect the FCS mission and philosophy. Provide training for direct care direct support professionals
(DSP) relevant to specific individual’s medical needs and requirements. Act as a clinical resource and advocate.
Attends home meetings to answer any DSP questions and maintain ongoing teaching of related topics that
concern the individuals that receive support as well as state required teaching. Establish and maintain positive
professional relationships with supervisor, DSP’s, individuals that receive support and other community
programs/agencies. Develop training curriculum for DSP’s regarding nursing processes. Work in cooperation
with other departments to establish and maintain procedures necessary to conduct departmental duties.
Oversee/administer employee immunization program and infection disease screening to include TB and
COVID. Travel on a quarterly and as needed basis to FCS Kenai office for onsite nursing department functions.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Valid license as an R.N. in the State of
Alaska. Two years’ experience providing services to people with developmental disabilities preferred. Two
years’ experience providing community based residential services and management of Medicaid Waivers
preferred. Must maintain confidentiality of Individual Protected Health Information (PHI) or treatment,
payment, health care, etc. Awareness of community resources and the Medicaid Waiver System preferred.
Ability to work well with other people individually and as a team member. Well organized with strong
writing/documentation skills. Excellent computer skills and ability to navigate technology including cell
phone/tablets. Knowledge of and ability to work within the human service delivery system at local and state
levels.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to tolerate sitting at a desk for long periods. Must be able to perform visits
onsite in client’s homes.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid license as an R.N. in the State of Alaska. A valid driver’s
license in the State of Alaska. Able to successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Job
related testing may be required. Must take TB test/screening annually. Successfully pass MANDT training.
