What Will I Be Doing?

Here are just a few things you can expect to do daily:

  • Create positive and productive working relationships with local leadership team and the customer; work closely together while maintaining an independent safety function which is not subordinate to operations or production.
  • Will manage the safety team and safety program for the site.
  • Effectively communicate the safety culture, priorities the site safety agenda, and review the results to all organization levels. Create safety awareness, participation, and recognition programs for all employees
  • Management of the site Safety records to include employee training, incident reports / countermeasures, OSHA 300 logs, OSHA records, and Workers Compensation cases / records.
  • Communication and participation with the customer including incident reporting, safety program updates, and site wide safety initiatives.
  • Interfacing with C&W Services staff and hourly personnel to ensure Safety program expectations are met. Ensures all team members are compliant with company / customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for Safety team members performance and individual development plans.
  • Provide training and information to supervisors & employees on safety issues.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports for Health and Safety Metrics to include Site Scorecard, Observations, & Behaviors. Use the data to provide information for Leading & Lagging Indicator Reports.
  • Administer new hire orientation, OSHA 10-hour, weekly safety training/meetings, classroom & field equipment training.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers health and safety
  • Develops occupational health and safety systems; including policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Responsibilities also include documenting safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures, recommending corrective actions, and maintaining/availability of safety equipment supplies.
  • Manage to completion all minor or major incidents that occur; investigate unsafe working conditions, study possible causes, and make recommendations. Based on findings ensure follow-up actions are taken to prevent re-occurrences that are addressed through the “Root Cause Analysis” method.
  • Participate in RCA/ incident reviews with customers.
  • Compile and submit incident reports required by regulatory agencies and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Must have a detailed knowledge of the following topics: industrial mechanical applications / machinery, industrial insulation applications, scaffold building, general buildings / grounds maintenance, and janitorial processes.
  • Must maintain a consistent and good attendance record in accordance with Company policy
  • Report to regional management and account manager on the status of occupational health and safety programs.
  • Oversee the site mentoring program.
  • Able to travel & support other sites.
  • Able to be part of the on-call rotation for safety issues
  • Create safety awareness, participation, and recognition programs for all employees.
  • Build trust, influence, and motivate others through your personal and professional credibility.
  • Works with the Training Coordinator to maintain complete and accurate safety training records that are OSHA compliant.
  • Employee will perform any and all other relevant duties assigned by the Account Manager.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe, accurate, timely, effective, and efficient manner.
  • Train site employees to the safety training and education programs; demonstrate the use of safety equipment
  • Facilitates new employee health and safety orientations and manages/develops the material for these training classes
  • Has the ability to fill in for the Safety Manager in times of need; Consultation with customer, physicians, work comp personnel & legal may be required
  • Prepare and calibrate monitoring equipment in order to measure and control hazardous substances, or conditions such as noise or radiation levels
  • Comply with C&W SERVICES and Cargill policies

  • Experience: 5 years of experience in an Industrial setting as a Safety Professional with managerial experience.
  • Required Education: Possess a high school diploma or a certified GED. Possess a 30-hour certification in general industry. Possess a bachelor’s degree in safety or 9 total years of experience in the safety field without a degree.
  • Preferred Education: 511 & 501 NSC General Industry- to train 10- & 30-hour OSHA, 132-hour Occupational Safety & Health Professional, NSCs Advanced Safety Certificate Program, NSCs Specialist in Safety & Health (SSH-G) General Industry, NSCs Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO-G) General Industry, NSCs Safety, Health, & Environmental Professional (SHEP-G) General Industry, BCSPs Associate Safety Professionals (ASP)
  • Computer Skills: Must have strong computer skills including knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Additional Skills: Good facilitator skills with strong interpersonal skills. Effectively work with all levels of the organization. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize and multitask
