Position Title: Saw 2

Hourly Pay Rate: $18.33 to $21.14

Summary:

The Saw Operator 2 is responsible for safely using one or some, but not all, company saws for cutting premium meat. Saws meat and bones from hind quarters and legs. May saw some front quarters but not proficiently. Under moderate supervision, performs duties acceptably and within expected time periods. Produces quality work with minimum defects. Contributes a positive attitude to the team.

Duties:

• Safely set-up, operate and break-down at least one type of company saw including bone saws, and breaking saws for hinds and legs.
• Cut meat to company specifications, using saws and/or knives, while achieving expected protein yield, throughput, and quality standards.
• Learns other saws to maintain an available, practiced level of skills by employee rotations across various saws.
• Inspect meat products and remove defects, bruises, blemishes.
• Follow quality procedures and consistently achieve quality standards. Ask questions when necessary.
• Comply with all company safety requirements attentively!
• Demonstrate skill proficiency on the saw(s) run; that is, the ability to very safely work at a steady pace, never rushing, while producing product quantities expected. Communicate with the leader if challenges exist.
• Properly care for equipment, including but not limited to saws, blades, and knives. Inspect blades for wear and cracks, always keeping blades sharp to optimize quality and efficiency; and cleaning and storing tools as required after use.
• Follow standard operating procedures to assure compliance with company HACCP plan.
• Clean work area during and after the shift according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Learn and work to correct product specifications.
• May assist with training of Trimmers or Boners as part of the company’s job progression.
• Promptly communicate issues to leadership. Recommend improvements.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and cooperative behaviors that contribute to a team and growth-oriented culture.
• Comply with company conduct and attendance expectations.
• Perform duties across the Plant operations of equal or lower pay classifications as needed.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by leader.

Qualifications:

Safely comfortable and confident operating meat cutting tools including at least one or some saws in a meat processing setting and willingness to learn all company saws.

Ideal prerequisite willingness and ability to perform General Trimming or Deboning duties on some company proteins.

Learn and apply proper use of hook, knife and other equipment to perform tasks.

Ability to learn, understand and apply knowledge of food safety procedures and programs including SSOP, SOP, GMPs.

Ability to understand, interpret, follow instructions accurately.

Ability to communicate with coworkers. Bilingual with English preferred.

Punctual and reliable.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Courteous, cooperative, collaborative.

Must be able to work on and around machinery and chemicals.

Ability to wear company required personal protective equipment.

Ability to lift 50 pounds, and frequently stand, walk, rip, grasp, lift, push, crouch, turn, bend, and reach. Good hand-eye coordination, near vision, and manual dexterity.

Eighteen years or older with ability to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Willingness and general ability to work in other production areas as needed.

Working Conditions:

Work weeks are Monday to Friday, 8-10 hours daily with overtime as required. Some weekend work upon notice. Start and end times may vary based on production needs.

Wet, humid, refrigerated environment.

Exposure to animal fat, grease and chemicals.

Moderate noise level for which hearing protection is required.
