The Goddard School of Maplewood

Description: We are seeking an outstanding Director for The Goddard School of Maplewood which is an elite, trilingual preschool located in Maplewood, New Jersey. A sister campus of Goddard Millburn, Goddard Millburn was recently awarded "Circle of Excellence" Millburn Goddard has been named in the top 30 of 600 Goddard Schools nationwide. In Maplewood, we believe the purpose of education is to simultaneously prepare our children for the world, and create a better world. Maplewood Goddard's mission is to "help our children become excellent communicators who thrive in diverse communities." A Reggio-Emilia inspired school, teachers use The Wonder of Learning curriculum to create an inspirational an intentional environment while children learn three languages (English, Spanish, Mandarin) from birth through Pre-Kindergarten.

The Owner, Laura Kulkarni, is a graduate of Columbia University's Teachers College, a former teacher for 20 years and the mother of 5 young children. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the school including managing staff, parents, children, health & safety, education, and all aspects of the school and business. This position works in close collaboration with the Owner, Assistant Directors, faculty and children.

Essential Duties

  • Support the school’s mission and culture, making both central to all decisions and actions.
  • Model outstanding customer service in all interactions with families.
  • Inspire the faculty and guide the school's curriculum with thorough understanding of early childhood education and development.
  • Support and guide the school's multilingual and multicultural programs.
  • Oversee the health and safety of all faculty and students.
  • Identify, hire, train and retain outstanding faculty.
  • Maintain organized and confidential files.
  • Process payroll.
  • Oversee building and grounds maintenance.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish or Mandarin)
  • At least seven years of experience in a similar position with demonstrated academic leadership in the development and administration of curriculum, budget, personnel, strategic planning and the use of technology in education
  • Proven experience leading and developing exuberant, creative, and committed staff with an equal passion for student-centered education, technological innovation, and service leadership
  • Successful hands-on leadership experience within a progressive, diverse, multicultural learning environment with proven ability to work well with a variety of constituents
  • Strong background in teaching, advising, coaching as well as administrative experience
  • Belief and a strong passion for the mission of The School
  • Ability to formulate and articulate sound policies and demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide variety of administrative and personnel issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities
  • Has expectation of excellence and a demonstrated interest in providing a high-quality student experience
  • High energy, lively intelligence and enthusiasm for early childhood education and daycare
  • Motivated self-starter, strategic thinker, with organization and initiative

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
