Summary:

The Sr., Chemist will oversee and support the Quality Control Laboratory in the full compliance with GMP and GLP requirements.

Your primary activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Performs analytical testing pursuant to available qualified methods of analysis, including but not limited to:

o moisture analysis, tapped/bulk density, particle size via sieving method, UV-Vis spectrometry, FTIR spectrometry, TOC, HPLC and UPLC chromatography, dissolution, disintegration, weighing, etc. Performs multiple tasks in the proper sequence to effectively obtain analytical data. Quality control chemists must be team and goal oriented.

  • Under general supervision, and/or standard operating procedures, analytical testing procedures, final submission ready documents, and create document templates for use by team members
  • Perform chemical and physical testing of all raw materials, in-process materials and finished products to ensure it meets the established specifications.
  • Ensure laboratory results are accurate and of the highest quality.
  • Ensure testing is conducted in a timely manner and review out of specifications results, conduct investigations to identify the root cause.
  • Ensure proper documentation for all tests and other activities performed.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain analytical instrumentation for product testing, including routine preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Write, revise, and review Standard Operating Procedures, Protocols and Reports. Perform method development, validation, and verification.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper priority is given to necessary rush orders to meet daily demands. Perform any other assignments as assigned by QA/QC Manager.
  • Review and release raw material lots, bulk product batches and finished product batches.
  • Assists in establishing and conducting annual GMP and GLP audits.
  • Uses professional skills and concepts to solve a variety of complex situations within a reasonable period.
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of Chemists (Chemist I, Chemist II, Microbiologist, and Inspector).
  • Create and maintain systems to monitor data quality (tracking) and performance, and perform trend analysis on laboratory data (i.e., out of specification results)
  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinate with QC Supervisor/Manager to ensure priority is given to the necessary rush orders to meet daily demands.
  • Review and release raw materials and bulk product batches.
  • Coordinate method development, validation, and verification programs.
  • Assist handling OOS investigations, analysis of complaint samples, vendor qualification samples and submitting audit documentation required by QC Supervisor/Manager.
  • Uses professional skills and concepts to solve variety of complex situations within a reasonable period.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned to support department and organizational goals

You’ll need the following (minimum qualifications):

  • Minimum of year (6) year of experience in quality control laboratory or related field.
  • Possesses a genuine desire to work in Quality Control Laboratory truly likes working within all aspects of the chemistry process.
  • Supervision
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office tools, i.e. Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Familiar with basic analytical techniques (HPLC, UV/Vis, FTIR, GC, ICP-MS, UPLC etc.).
  • Must have experience with method validation
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs., climb step-up ladders, and perform constant motions of scooping, wiping, raising of arms, bending, and kneeling, if needed
  • Ability to be exposed to nutraceutical raw materials and powders which may include allergen related items
  • Ability to comprehend basic computer knowledge
  • Exhibits the ability to work well with others and maintain organization between cross-related departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to address audiences at varying levels.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • High School education (HS Diploma or GED) preferred
  • Experience in food/pharmaceutical processing operations, FDA regulated industry, or combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to perform the job successfully (preferred)

A reasonable estimate of the current base hourly/salary range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on skill level, experience, and/or education.
