SUMMARY

The Senior Developer – Data Warehouse & Engineering will be responsible for contributing to the architecture, design and implementation of Quaker Houghton’s Data Warehouse/ Business Intelligence/ ETL and API applications (DW/BI/ETL/API) ecosystem. This position presents the opportunity to work in a strategically important and fast paced team that supports the data and business intelligence needs of both corporate and field users.

The Senior Developer will be responsible for supporting the data infrastructure and administration of several DW/BI/ETL/API systems that deliver data-driven and actionable insights to the business. Specifically, the Senior Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining modern scaled, automated, and user-friendly systems that support data warehousing, business intelligence, data transfer and exchange, and reporting and analytic needs. This role will help shape the direction of business reporting and ensure DW/BI/ETL/API best practices and resources are effectively used throughout the organization.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Design relational and analytical database schemas and architectures based on best practices and customer requirements/needs
• Build ETL (Extracting, Transforming and Loading) solutions to support key business data and data warehouse requirements using data integration tools.
• Configure and tune ETL infrastructure to optimize the data warehousing architecture
• Design business conceptual models and translate to logical and physical models using ER (entity-relationship) models to assist with data warehousing
• Develop and monitor on-demand and ad-hoc reports and dashboards using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Jupyter Notebooks, and SQL Server, and languages such as SQL, Scala, and Python
• Solve real-world business problems by designing and building queries sourced from OLAP (online analytical processing) cubes, applying data mining algorithms, writing queries, and designing reports using the Microsoft SQL Server and Azure data ecosystem of tools, including Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, and a Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse.
• Build and debug complex SQL queries and optimize performance of queries using database tools
• Create batch script to automate the configuration and scheduling by grouping one or more jobs
• Create technical documents with source to target mapping including detailed transformational logics
• Schedule ETL jobs based on the completion of the source systems, and establish controls and reconciliation process to check the data load between source and targets
• Provide consulting support on all organization data-related solutions (program design, report design, data feed design, data aggregation, etc.)
• Create database objects, normalize tables as needed. Maintain the database referential integrity.
• Enforce industry/company naming conventions & standards for database objects, reports, file names, etc.
• Monitor production jobs, report and processes, and make sure they are completed on-time
• Create indexes, keys, joins appropriately to ensure best performance
• Perform and document audits regularly according to company policies. Report findings to management.
• Correct the audit findings in a timely manner and complete necessary documentations
• Attend to user issues on-time and resolve issues as per the established SLA
• Participates in requirements definition, solution development and the implementation phases of data warehouse and reporting projects
• Proactive ability to process large amounts of data into meaningful results to meet reporting needs and ad hoc requests

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Key Education or Certification Required

High school diploma or GED at a minimum; Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred, or equivalent work experience

Required Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience

• 10+ years’ experience in designing, developing, testing and implementation of data warehouse solutions
• 10+ years solid hands-on experience in database development & SQL programming experience (stored procedures, views, triggers) using MS SQL Server and/or Azure cloud-based databases
• 10+ experience in ETL development (Extract Transformation & Load) using one or more ETL tools like Informatica, Data Stage, Business Objects Data Integrator, MS SQL Server DTS/SSIS, Azure Data Factory
• 10+ Experience in data warehouse architecture, dimensional modeling, design principles and best practices
• 2+ years of Azure Services Including Azure Data Factory, Azure Key Vault, Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Azure Logic Apps and Functions, and/or Azure Synapse
• 2+ years of Azure data engineering with Azure Spark or Azure Databricks, or equivalent Apache Spark-based cluster computing with Python, Scala, or C#

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong working knowledge of creating and maintaining complex SQL queries
• Strong working knowledge of data warehouse design (e.g., dimensional modeling) and data mining while leveraging visualization tools
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft business intelligence technologies
• Advanced knowledge and experience in relational & dimensional data models, star & snow-flake schemas and experience in developing data models using Erwin , MS-VISIO
• Exposure to building/supporting API integrations with REST APIs
• Working knowledge of DevOps, containers, orchestration systems, build systems and infrastructure automation
