Under direction, is responsible for performing engineering work which requires a considerable level of analysis and detailed calculations. Responsible for reviewing plats, Master Development Plans (MDP), building permits, Letters of Map Revision (LOMR), Capital Projects, and/or other applications and submittals. Performs work associated with identifying and remediating floodplain violations. May exercise direct supervision over assigned staff, as well as functional and technical supervision of project staff.
Primary work responsibilities will include performing detailed engineering reviews for building permit, plat, capital project, and/or floodplain submittals. Responsibilities may also include site investigations, preliminary design, or other tasks related to civil engineering, storm water management, and floodplain management.

Work Hours
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
- Responsible for providing detailed an accurate reviews of application packages for major and minor plats, Master Development Plans (MDPs), building and site work permits, Letters of Map Revision (LOMR), and/or Capital Projects. Reviews are based on the City of San Antonio Unified Development Code and other applicable codes and regulations.
- Provide detailed reviews of detention pond design and flood studies associated with plats, permits, etc.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations.
- Performs rapid assessment designs, cost estimates, and reviews as needed.
- Performs site assessments as needed.
- Performs analyses and prepares correspondence related to floodplain violations.
- Prepares status reports of assigned projects.
- Conducts and/or attends public meetings and various public relations tasks.
- May supervise assigned staff in day-to-day operations and directs project staff as needed.
- Performs as "Engineer of the Day" (EOD) as part of the team schedule to review counter permits and take questions from customers. Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding storm water issues.
- Provides technical assistance to other divisions and departments.
- Coordinates with other divisions, departments, or municipal agencies on projects under design.
- Meets with consultants on various projects to discuss design issues.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college, university or engineering school approved by the State of Texas Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- One (1) year of engineering experience.
- No substitution for education allowed.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in the State of Texas
- OR
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification from another state with the ability to obtain an EIT Certification in the State of Texas within six (6) months of employment.
- Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) license.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in Land Development.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in Storm Water Management and/or Floodplain Management.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
- Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Knowledge of engineering mathematics.
- Knowledge of surveying and drafting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of applying real world design and construction constraints to technical engineering design.
- Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing rudimentary software.
- Skill in operating engineering software.
- Ability to learn Federal and State regulations and City ordinances related to the area assigned.
- Ability to determine types of field data needed as basis for satisfactory design and development of complete construction plans.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing (including formal writing and e-mail).
- Ability to interpret and properly apply all applicable regulations.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations.
- Ability to learn new software programs.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to perform regular and organized updates to internal databases.
