What does Systems Integration & Test (SI&T) do?

SI&T integrates, verifies, and validates our products. We put our systems together, exercise them in the lab or in the field, measure and analyze performance, and make sure our products work the first time and every time. To accomplish this, we develop plans and procedures, debug and evaluate system functions and interfaces, develop test environments, and work hand-in-hand with our customers.

Job Summary

Within SI&T, the Test Operations & Environments Department includes the Environmental Test (ET) organization. ET is an engineering organization that supports all missile programs across Missiles and Defense. The ET organization provides testing capability for every phase of the product life cycle from prototype to production. Environmental testing includes mechanical shock, electrodynamic vibration, salt fog, climatic environments such as temperature, humidity, and altitude, high temperature quartz lamp testing, structural testing, test fixture design, and custom instrumentation installations and data acquisition support.

Environmental Test is seeking a Test Engineer in the field of environmental testing. The Test Engineer is responsible for executing a variety of environmental tests while collaborating in an integrated product team environment with fellow ET Test Engineers, ET Support Engineers, and internal engineering customers. The Test Engineer will work within the IP team to develop the best methods for implementing tests to meet customer requirements and is responsible for all aspects of the test including test design and setup, equipment control and monitoring, and data collection and analysis. The Test Engineer is responsible for performing troubleshooting and adjustment of both the equipment and test setup when technical issues arise.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Review test plans and procedures for technical content and test safety
  • Oversee and personally conduct environmental testing to validate models for the purposes of new product qualification, production acceptance, flight test clearance, engineering evaluations, and failure investigations
  • Assist in creating schedules and budgets
  • Implement engineering best practices to ensure testing is performed accurately and on schedule
  • Provide resolution as testing conflicts arise

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires bachelor’s degree in engineering, or closely related STEM field, and five (5) years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree and three (3) years of relevant experience OR in absence of a degree, nine (9) years of relevant experience is required
  • Technical experience in an environmental test environment with emphasis in test planning and execution
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience managing and conducting environmental testing to validate models, hardware designs, or flight data for the purposes of ensuring safety margins, production acceptance, product qualification, design verification, flight test clearance, engineering evaluations, or failure reviews
  • Testing should include one or more of the following: Static loading, vibration, shock, sine, centrifuge, thermal / altitude / humidity, rain / ice, mass properties, salt fog, separation, or aerothermal loading
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience developing, validating, and executing test plans and test procedures while ensuring testing is performed on-time and within-budget
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience implementing engineering best practices and providing design recommendations to ensure testing is performed accurately and efficiently within all MIL-STD (or equivalent) specifications
  • Microsoft Windows and Office applications experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. "U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Masters of Science or Ph.D. in aforementioned degree fields
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and leadership skills including effective written, verbal, and listening
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with modeling and analysis software applications such as PTC ProE/CREO or SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS workbench
  • Experience performing hands on vibration testing using vibration controllers such as Unholtz-Dickie, LMS, Vibration Research, Jaguar, or Crystal Instruments
  • Experience with all types of instrumentation to include accelerometers, thermocouples, strain gages, load cells, and displacement transducers
  • Experience with data acquisition system hardware and software such as Dewesoft, DEWETRON, Somat, or National Instrument’s LabVIEW.
  • Current DoD secret or TS/SSBI clearance
