This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill current and future Senior Citizens Representative II vacancies within OC Community Resources, OC Community Services. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower-level classifications throughout the County of Orange.

OC COMMUNITY RESOURCES (OCCR)
OC Community Resources is a multi-faceted department comprised of OC Animal Care, OC Community Services, OC Housing, OC Parks and OC Public Libraries.
OFFICE ON AGING
The Office on Aging, a division in OC Community Resources, ensures that older adults, caregivers and veterans in Orange County experience a high quality of life characterized by independence, safety, health, affordable housing, appropriate nutrition, and access to transportation and social activities. The Office on Aging is responsible for understanding the needs of Orange County's older adults and utilizing the federal funding and programs available to meet those requirements. Together with their partners, the Office on Aging provides a full range of older adult services including information and assistance on programs and services available for older adults and their caregivers.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Citizens Representative II is responsible for providing information and assistance on a range of programs and services available for older adults and those who provide care for them. This position will provide callers with information and referrals as it pertains to available resources within the community, provide support and emotional reassurance, and take action in emergency situations. In addition, the incumbent must be able to develop positive community interactions with clients, community partners and staff representatives.
CORE COMPETENCIES
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the following core competencies:
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
- Understanding and applying principles of community organizations and social service program development.
- Understanding of older adult/caregiving issues, the aging process, and the services/programs available to this population.
- Providing services to older adults or those with disabilities, in social services and/or mental health services, or providing services and/or resources to older adults, those with disabilities, caregivers and/or veterans.
- Utilizing ReferNet/Navigate 211 or another information referral software system.
COMMUNICATION | CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Effectively handling customer questions and complaints.
- Demonstrating the ability to be patient, empathetic and supportive with callers.
- Demonstrating the ability to work effectively with co-workers and other agency representatives.
- Seeking to provide the highest quality service to all customers.
Minimum Qualifications
RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Applications and supplemental responses will be screened for qualifications that are highly desirable and most needed to successfully perform the duties of this job. Only those applicants that meet the qualifications as listed in the job bulletin will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process.
Multiple Choice Online Exam | (Weighted 100%)
An online exam consisting of job-related questions will be administered. Candidates who pass this test will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. This is a standardized test and there are no study guides available.
Based on the Department's needs, the recruitment procedures listed above may be modified. Candidates will be notified of any changes in the recruitment procedures.
Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed; HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for current and future vacancies.
