Position Summary

The Senior Water Resources Engineer will play a key role in the planning and implementation of a diversity of water resources projects including stream, floodplain, and riparian restoration; wetland creation and restoration; pond and lake management; bank stabilization and infrastructure protection; and green stormwater infrastructure; as well as the studies that support these projects. This position requires 10+ years of experience.in the study, design, permitting, and construction of water resources projects, or a suitable equivalent. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker and adept problem-solver with strong technical skills and the desire to work on a variety of water resources projects with engineers, ecologists, and landscape architects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead engineer for water resources projects, including analysis, design, permitting, and construction services related to stream, floodplain, and riparian restoration; wetland creation and restoration; pond and lake management; bank stabilization and infrastructure protection; and green stormwater infrastructure;
  • Project management, including oversight of contract, scope, schedule, and budget;
  • Preparation of engineering designs, technical reports, specifications, permitting packages, bid documents, letters, and other documents in accordance with company standards;
  • Preparation of proposals and fee estimates to secure future work;
  • Mentoring junior staff and providing quality control/quality assurance review of work products;
  • Regular communication with the Director of Water Resources;
  • Coordination and collaboration with other technical divisions within the firm, subcontractors, and project partners; and
  • Establishing and maintaining business relationships.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering;
  • Current Professional Engineering (P.E.) license;
  • Ten or more years of work experience relevant to the above listed responsibilities;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Collaborative working style and team-player attitude;
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic;
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to the teams success;
  • Able to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven work environment; and
  • Valid drivers license.

Desired Qualifications

  • Detailed knowledge of one or more aquatic ecosystem (e.g., river mechanics, wetland hydrology, etc.);
  • Relevant value-added certifications (e.g., Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) or Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)); and/or
  • Experience with any/all of the following software applications: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, SWMM, SPARROW.
